Staci Warrington demonstrated great perseverance in the 20-lap Super Late Model feature. By running hard the entire race and being at the right place at the right time, Warrington was able to hold off Ricky Elliott and drive to her first win of the season and her fourth overall in the division.
Richard Jarvis, Jr. wasted no time jumping from his fourth starting spot to lead lap one of the main. Warrington followed into the second spot with rookie, Kerry King, Jr. running in third. Elliott had started in the eighth spot and was up to third by lap six.
At the halfway sign, Jarvis was comfortably out front with Elliott pressuring Warrington for second. David Hill was running in the fourth spot and heat winner, Donald Lingo, Jr. was up from tenth into fifth.
Elliott took the second spot on lap 11 and began to close on the leader Jarvis. With five to go, Jarvis slowed with mechanical woes and Elliott had to check up to avoid a tangle. Warrington took advantage of the situation by shooting by both to take the lead before the yellow came out.
With five to go, Warrington was hard on the throttle and was able to keep Elliott at bay. Donald Lingo, Jr. made things even more interesting as he mounted a challenge on Elliott for second. The crowd was on its feet as Warrington powered off the final turn to take the win. Donald Lingo edged Elliott for second with Hill fourth and Amanda Whaley coming on in the final five laps to finish in fifth. The second heat was captured by Lou Johnson.
“I hasn’t been such a good year so far,” said Warrington. “ I can’t believe it, I just cant believe it. I’ve got to just thank everyone.”
