MARK CATHELL WINS FIRST OPEN WHEEL SUPER PRO FINAL AT U.S. 13

Mark CathellBy Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (8/13/11) – Mark Cathell of Seaford, Del. drove to his first Super Pro win of the season, and his first driving his 2004 Dakotah dragster sponsored by European Coach Werkes, Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Mike Miller of Harrington, Del. was back in victory lane after a long absence in Pro and Anthony Buckson of Smyrna rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Gary Stickles of Delmar, Md. in Street; James Jenkins of Blades, Del. in Bike Trophy; Alexis Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Cortney Cathell of Laurel, Del. in Jr. Dragster 2.

Mark Cathell met Andrew Blank of Snow Hill, Md. in his 69 Camaro in the Super Pro final. Blank had the better reaction time but Cathell was almost dead on his dial-in as he drove by for the win. Cathell ran a 7.751/171.75 on a 7.75 dial while Blank had a 9.835/134.73 on a 9.80 dial. Semi-finalist was Johnny Ennis of Pocomoke, Md. who lost to Cathell while Blank had a bye.

Mike Miller in his Plymouth Volaire faced Jesse Long of Preston, Md. in his ’70 Mustang in the Pro final. Long had a red light foul and Miller drove to his first win of the year with a 12.294/110.02 on a 12.28 dial. Semi-finalist was Ben Garnett of Smyrna, Del. who lost to Miller while Long had the bye.

Anthony Buckson took on Jermaine Sturgis of Frankford, Del. in the Pro Bike final. Buckson had the better reaction and took the victory with a 10.648/117.08 on a 10.57 dial. Sturgis had a 10.009/135.89 on a 9.95 dial. Semi-finalists were John Bartkovich of Salisbury, Md. who lost to Buckson and Brandon Clark of Frankford who lost to Sturgis.

Gary Stickles defeated Henry Osowiecki to win in Street Eliminator. Stickles had a big advantage with his reaction time and took the win with a 13.887/96.00 on a 13.83 dial. Osowiecki had a late start but ran his dial with a 12.246/106.43 on a 12.24 dial.

In Bike Trophy it was James Jenkins over Harvey Powell of Salisbury. Powell had the better reaction but broke out with a 16.946/65.20 on a 17.03 dial. Jenkins had a 10.458/137.46 on a 9.65 dial for the win.

In Jr. Dragster 1 it was Alexis Truitt paired against Anthony Pavone of Seaford. Pavone left early and fouled and Truitt ran an 8.937/70.94 on an 8.90 dial for the win. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Cortney Cathell taking the win while Vance Price, Jr. of Vienna, Md. had a red light foul. Cathell ran a 7.936/80.56 on a 7.90 dial.

Jr. Dragster 1 point leader Tyler Powell won the NHRA Division 1 Jr. Dragster Race of Champions on Friday night at the Mason/Dixon Dragway in Hagerstown, Md.

This Friday night will be the last Friday night before moving back to Sunday racing. This Friday night will be another Summit E.T. Racing Series with gates opening at 3:30 p.m., time runs beginning at 4:30 p.m. and eliminations at approximately 8:30 p.m.
