JAY BRADFORD CLAIMS SEASON OPENER AT U.S. 13 DRAGWAY
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (3/18/12) – Following two weekends of practice the U.S. 13 Dragway kicked off the 2012 season on Sunday under sunny skies and unseasonably warm temperatures. At the end of the day it was veteran Jay Bradford of Newark, Md. taking the win in the Super Pro final. Roger Ridgeway, Jr. of Dover, Del. garnered the win in Pro and Chris Morris of Lincoln, Del. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Wayne Phippin of Salisbury, Md. in Street; Earl Davis of Parksley, Va. in Bike Trophy; Brittany Hooper of Hurlock, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Shelby Bireley of Salisbury, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.
Jay Bradford faced W.R. Ketterman of Salisbury in the Super Pro final. Ketterman left early and fouled and Bradford drove his ‘94 Lumina to the win with a .009 reaction and an off the throttle pass at 9.678/101.02 on an 8.53 dial. Semi-finalist was Jamie Russell of Dover who lost to Ketterman while Bradford had the bye.
In the Pro final, Roger Ridgeway, Jr. was paired against Andy Davenport of Seaford, Del. Davenport had a red light foul and Ridgeway drove his ’80 Mustang to the victory with a full pass at 10.256/130.90 on a 10.30 dial-in. Semi-finalists were Michael VanDenheuvel of Elkton, Md. who lost to Ridgeway and Roger Dalton, Jr. of Aberdeen, Md. who lost to Davenport.
Chris Morris rode to the win over Anthony Buckson of Smyrna, Del. in the Pro Bike final. Buckson had a red light foul and Morris ran a 10.090/136.19 on a 10.00 dial. Semi-finalist was Eddie Savage, Jr. of Wallops Island, Va. who lost to Buckson.
The Street final turned out to be a solo pass by Wayne Phippin when Wahi Bass of Cambridge, Md. broke in winning in the semi-final round. Phippin drove his ’80 Monte Carlo to an 11.878/114.30 on an 11.95 dial. It was Earl Davis over Harvey Powell of Salisbury in the Bike Trophy final. Powell broke out with a 15.746 on a 15.77 dial and Davis took the win with a 10.756/122.83 on a 15.80 dial.
Brittany Hooper met Michael Ennis of Delmar in the Jr. Dragster 1 final. Ennis left early and fouled and Hooper got the win with an 8.931/72.66 on an 8.91 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Shelby Bireley taking on Christian Walston of Crisfield. Walston had the edge at the start but broke out with a 7.893/81.49 on a 7.90 dial. Bireley took the victory with a 7.925/81.6 on a 7.90 dial.
This Sunday will be another E.T. Bracket Series event with gates opening at 10 a.m., time runs beginning at 11 a.m. and eliminations starting at approximately 2:30 p.m.
