PHILLIP TRUITT TAKES DOUBLE POINTS WIN IN SUPER PRO AT U.S. 13
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (5/27/12) – Former champion, Phillip Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. was back on top Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway as he captured the double points Super Pro final. Glenn Groton of Salisbury picked up another win in Pro and John Bartkovich rode to his second win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Dennis Davis of Seaford, Del. in Street; Derrick Eskridge of Laurel, Del. in Bike Trophy; Anthony Pavone of Seaford in Jr. Dragster 1 and Trevor Post of Delmar in Jr. Dragster 2.
Phillip Truitt faced Vernon Russell of Dover, Del. in the Super Pro final. Russell had a -.002 red light foul and Truitt ran an 8.022/165.50 on a 7.99 dial for the win. Semi-finalists were Frank Lecates of Salisbury who lost to Truitt and Hank Usilton of Salisbiury who lost to Russell.
The Pro final paired points leader Glenn Groton and Jim Williams of Seaford. Williams had the better reaction but broke out with a 9.934 on a 9.94 dial and Groton got the win with a 10.473/126.13 on a 10.46 dial. Semi-finalists were Roger Ridgeway, Jr. of Dover who lost to Groton and Robin Lewers of Pocomoke, Md. who lost to Williams.
John Bartkovich rode into the Pro Bike final against Marlon Smith of Lincoln, Del. Bartkovich had the better reaction and took the win with a 14.028/89.79 on a 13.95 dial. Smith ran a 9.546/140.66 on a 9.50 dial. Semi-finalists were Will Jensen of Dagsboro, Del. who lost to Smith and Tony Mumford of Berlin, Md. who lost to Bartkovich.
Dennis Davis defeated Billy Brown of Selbyville, Del. to win in Street. Brown broke out with an 11.910 on an 11.93 dial while Davis ran an 11.983/110.60 in the heads-up run. Derrick Eskridge had the better reaction and took the win over Harvey Powell of Salisbury in the Bike Trophy final. Eskridge ran a 15.911/72.30 on a 15.58 dial while Powell ran a 13.748/80.42 on a 13.25 dial.
Anthony Pavone met Brittany Hooper of Hurlock, Md. in the Jr. Dragster 1 final. Pavone had the better start and drove to the double breakout win with a 9.009/70.99 on a 9.04 dial. Hooper was out by more with an 8.947/72.15 on an 8.98. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Trevor Post going against Cortney Cathell of Laurel. Cathell had a -.001 red light and Post took the win with a 7.914/81.51 on a 7.90 dial.
This Sunday will be the 3rd Bad 8 event and the final Sunday event before moving to Friday nights. Gates open at 10 a.m. with qualifying at 11 a.m. and eliminations around 2:30 p.m.
