VANCE OWENS REBOUNDS WITH A BUY-BACK AND WINS SUPER PRO
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (6/16/12) – Vance Owens of Georgetown, Del. could have had his night end early when he red-lighted in the first round of the Super Pro eliminations, Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. First round losers were allowed to buy back into eliminations and that is what Owens did, winning the rest of his rounds and taking the Super Pro final. Ben Garnett of Smyrna, Del. posted his first win in Pro and former champ, Charles Nock of Greenwood, Del. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the night included: Frank Parks of Denton, Md. in Street; Harvey Powell of Salisbury, Md. in Bike Trophy; Brittany Hooper of Hurlock, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Christian Walston of Crisfield, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.
Owens made it all the way to the Super Pro final and faced Bobby Insley of Crisfield. It was a great run by both drivers with Owens taking the win with a .020 reaction and a run of 11.022/120.69 on an 11.02 dial. Insley had a .028 reaction and ran a 7.765/168.35 on a 7.76 dial. Semi-finalists were Chad Cathell of Seaford, Del. who lost to Insley and Ben Parks of Salisbury who lost to Owens.
Ben Garnett met former Street champion Chelsea Williams of Seaford in the Pro final. It was a close run with the pair even at the start but Garnett got the win with a 9.462/132.76 on a 9.45 dial. Williams ran an 11.444/114.02 on an 11.40 dial. Semi-finalist was Crystal Hudson of Millsboro who lost to Williams.
Charles Nock rode up against Peter Mahoney of Parsonsburg, Md. in the Pro Bike final. Nock had the better reaction and rode to the win with a 9.131/150.98 on a 9.06 dial. Mahoney had a 9.813/134.12 on a 9.75 dial. Semi-finalists were John Bartkovich of Salisbury who lost to Nock and Thomas Graves of Norfolk, Va. who lost to Mahoney.
Frank Parks to the win once again in Street this time against Wayne Phippin of Salisbury. Parks was on his dial with an 11.915/111.35 on an 11.91 dial for the win. Phippin ran an 11.910/111.34 on an 11.85 dial. In Bike Trophy it was Havey Powell taking the win once again. Keith Beetler of Berlin, Md. was in the final but fouled at the start and Powell took the win with a 15.741/74.29 on a 15.70 dial.
The Jr. Dragster 1 final matched Brittany Hooper and Tyler Williams of Fruitland, Md. Williams left too early and fouled and Hooper took the win with an 8.938/73.01 on an 8.92 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Christian Walston paired with Cortney Cathell of Laurel, Del. For the second week in a row, Walston took the win as Cathell red light fouled and Walston ran a 7.882/82.96 on a 7.90 dial.
The Friday night will be another exciting Summit E.T. Point Series race with gates opening at 3:30 p.m., time runs at 4:30 p.m. and eliminations at approximately 8 p.m.
