EDDIE SAVAGE & MIKE HOOPER BADDEST IN THE BAD 8 FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE U.S. 13 DRAGWAY

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/6/12) – Mike Hooper of Hurlock, Md. became the first driver to double in the Bad 8 this season when he won the Bad 8 Full Body final Saturday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Eddie Savage of Wallops Island, Va. became the fourth different winner in Bad 8 Open Wheel and Frank Lecates of Salisbury, Md. ended the different winner streak at ten as he drove to his second win of the year in Super Pro. Other winners on the night included: John Parks of Denton, Md. in Pro; James Farmer of Denton in Pro Bike; Paul Bradley of Millsboro, Del. in Street; Harvey Powell of Salisbury in Bike Trophy; Tyler Powell of Delmar, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Christian Walston of Crisfield, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.

 

Mike Hooper faced Hank Usilton of Salisbury in the Bad 8 Full Body final. Hooper had the better reaction and drove to his second win this year with an 8.838/154.26 on an 8.82 dial. Usilton ran an 8.772/150.27 on an 8.76 dial. Low E.T. and Top Speed in qualifying were set by Don Teague in his Chevy II with a 7.954/177.37. In the Bad 8 Open Wheel final it was Eddie Savage taking on Wayne Patton of Rhodesdale, Md. The pair were even off the line but Savage was on his dial with a 7.569/176.43 on a 7.56 dial. Patton ran a 7.327/180.14 on a 7.30 dial. In qualifying Mike Larkin of Salisbury set Low E.T.  with a 7.259 and Patton set Top Speed with a 186.37.

 

Chad Cathell of Seaford, Del. drove into his first Super Pro final facing former winner this season, Frank Lecates. Cathell left too early and fouled and Lacates drove to his second win wiith an 8.055/166.26 on an 8.05 dial. Semi-finalist was Mike Hooper who had advanced from his Bad 8 win then lost to Cathell while Lecates had a bye.

 

John Parks met point leader, Glenn Groton of Salisbury in the Pro final. The difference was at the starting line as Parks had a .036 reaction and a run of 10.715/124.49 on a 10.71 dial for the win. Groton was dead-on his dial but had a .042 light running a 10.600/124.89 on a 10.60 dial to get edged out. Semi-finalists were Wayne Redrow of New Castle, Del. who lost to Parks and Jesse Long of Preston, Md. who lost to Groton.

 

James Farmer rode up against Eddie Chapman of Pocomoke, Md. in the Pro Bike final. In an extremely close run both riders had almost identical reactions and both were on their dial-ins but it was Farmer scraping out the victory with an 8.861/140.75 on an 8.86 dial. Chapman ran a 9.204/149.67 on a 9.20 dial to lose by .004 seconds. Semi-finalist was Earl Davis of Parksley, Va. who lost to Chapman while Farmer had the bye.

Paul Bradley picked up his first win in Street Eliminator defeating Justin Williams of Hurlock, Md. Bradley had a .008 reaction and went on to the win with an 11.670/112.66 on an 11.57 dial. Williams ran a 15.644/86.62 on a 15.43 for the win. In Bike Trophy it was Harvey Powell netting his seventh win of the season over Michael Ross of Fruitland. Powell had a big advantage at the start and was on his dial with a 15.901/72.36 on a 15.89 dial for the win. Ross ran a 15.279/73.40 on a 15.16 dial after a late start.

 

Tyler Powell was back in the winner’s circle in Jr. Dragster 1 taking the win over Tyler Williams of Fruitland. Powell had a .006 reaction and ran an 8.974/71.16 on an 8.90 dial for his fourth win of the year. Williams ran a 9.142/70.29 on a 9.04 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Christian Walston driving to his fourth third win over Herby Sullivan of Ridgely, Md. Herby had the better reaction but broke out with an 8.015/79.35 on an 8.04 dial. Walston took the win with a 7.947/76.73 on a 7.90 dial.

 

This Friday night will be another exciting Summit E.T. Racing Point Series event with gates opening at 3:30 p.m., time runs at 4:30 p.m. and eliminations at approximately 8 p.m. General and pit admission is just $12.
