RILEY WILLIAMSON TAKES SUPER PRO POINTS OPENER
HOMETOWN RACER RILEY WILLIAMSON WINS SUPER PRO POINTS OPENER AT U.S. 13
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (4/7/13) – Hometown driver, Riley Williamson of Delmar got the Summit E.T. Racing Series season underway with a win in Super Pro Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. After three weeks of cancellations due to the weather, Mother Nature finally cooperated. This produced a large field of cars and a good crowd. Other winners on the day included: Jim Williams of Seaford, Del. in Pro; D.J. Lockwood of Berlin, Md. in Pro Bike; Chuck Peacock of Salisbury, Md. in Street Eliminator; Nicholas Bowie of Greensboro, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Anthony Pavone of Seaford in Jr. Dragster 2. Significant cross winds forced the eliminations to be shortened to the eighth-mile for safety.
In the Super Pro final Riley Williamson faced defending point champion, Frank Lecates of Salisbury. The pair were even at the starting line with almost identical reaction times but Williamson was almost dead-on his dial-in and took the win. Williamson ran a 7.027/97.61 on a 7.02 dial while Lecates ran a 5.134/132.64 on a 5.11 dial. Semi-finalist were Vance Owens of Georgetown, Del. who lost to Williamson and Mike Jones of Salisbury who lost to Lecates.
Jim Williams in his ’70 Camaro met Jesse Long of Preston, Md. in his ’70 Mustang in the Pro final. Williams took the double break out win with a 6.752/102.12 on a 6.76 dial. Long was out by more running a 6.637/101.14 on a 6.65 dial. Semi-finalists were Jay Bare of Snow Hill, Md. who lost to Williams and John Parks of Denton, Md. who lost to Long.
D.J. Lockwood rode up against Marquise Blake of Bishopville, Md. in the Pro Bike final. Lockwood took the hole shot win with a 5.827/123.01 on a 5.78 dial while Blake ran a 5.910/118.28 on a 5.90 dial. Semi-finalists were Anthony Buckson of Smyrna, Del. who lost to Lockwood and Morgan Hudson of Berlin who lost to Blake.
The Street Eliminator final matched Chuck Peacock driving his ’68 Camaro against John Elias of Delmar in an ’81 AMC. Elias had a -.060 red light foul and Peacock ran a 6.440/109.56 on a 6.42 dial for the win.
First year driver, Nicholas Bowie went up against Michael Hankins of Severn, Md. in the Jr. Dragster 1 final. Bowie took his first career win with a .041 reaction and a run of 13.192/46.85 on a 13.19 dial. Hankins ran a 9.108/60.38 on a 9.06 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Anthony Pavone taking on Kody Mariner of Salisbury. Pavone took the double break out win with an 8.456/75.04 on an 8.49 dial. Mariner was out by more with a 7.897/81.41 on a 7.96 dial.
This Wednesday night, April 10th will be a Tune & Test session with gates opening at 5 p.m. and Tune & Test from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, April 14th will be the first “Bad 8� event plus Summit E.T. Racing Series. Gates open at 10 a.m. with qualifying at 11 a.m. and eliminations around 2 p.m.
