MIKE JONES ON TOP IN SUPER PRO SUNDAY AT U.S. 13

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (4/21/13) – Former champion, Mike Jones of Salisbury, Md. had an outstanding final round to win in Super Pro over John Myers of Glen Burnie, Md. Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Other winners on the day included: Ben Garnett of Smyrna, Del. in Pro; Charles Nock of Greenwood, Del. in Pro Bike; Frank Parks of Denton, Md. in Street Eliminator; Keith Riddle of Millsboro, Del. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Cortney Cathell of Laurel, Del. in Jr. Dragster 2.

 

Mike Jones and John Myers both got off to great starts in the Super Pro final. Jones had a .006 reaction light and Myers was one one-thousandth quicker with a .005 reaction. Myers would break out running a 10.029/128.97 on a 10.04 dial while Jones was almost dead-on for the win with a 7.522/173.17 on a 7.52 dial. Semi-finalists were Vic Gordy of Ellendale, Del. who lost to Myers and Larry Shorb of New Castle, Del. who lost to Jones.

 

In the Pro final it was Ben Garnett in his quick ’71 Maverick facing Roger Ridgeway, Jr. of Dover, Del. in his ’80 Mustang. Garnett had the better reaction and was on his dial for the win with a 9.256/144.71 on a 9.25 dial-in. Ridgeway, Jr. ran a 10.173/134.06 on a 10.16 dial. Semi-finalist was defending point champ, Glenn Groton of Salisbury, Md. who lost to Ridgeway, Jr. while Garnett earned the bye.

 

Former Pro Bike champion, Charles Nock rode up against defending Pro Bike champion, James Farmer of Denton in the Pro Bike final. Farmer had the better reaction but broke out with an 8.505/146.24 on an 8.53 dial while Nock rode to the win with a blistering 8.660/163.51 on an 8.62 dial. Semi-finalists were Cardi Nock who lost to his father Charles in a heads-up run where both racers ran over 160 mph and D.J. Lockwood of Berlin, Md. who lost to Farmer.

 

In the Street Eliminator final it was defend point champion, Frank Parks taking the win over Ryan Lecates of Salisbury. Parks had the better reaction and drove to the win with an 11.450/105.11 on an 11.39 dial. Lecates ran a 13.981/97.64 on a 13.95 dial.

 

Keith Riddle was paired against Dacia Powell of Salisbury in the Jr. Dragster 1 final. Powell had the better reaction but broke out with an 8.977/73.53 on an 8.99 dial. Riddle got the win with a 13.068/50.03 on a 13.03 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Cortney Cathell up against Willow Gunter of Delmar. It was a heads-up start with Cathell posting a .008 reaction and running to the win with a 7.927/79.75. Gunter broke out running a 7.867/82.19 on a 7.90.

Action resumes Sunday with the “Jr. Shoot Out� plus Summit E.T. Racing Series. Gates open at 10 a.m. with time runs at 11 a.m. and eliminations at approximately 2 p.m.
