DACIA POWELL CAPTURES JR. DRAGSTER SHOOT OUT SUNDAY AT U.S. 13 DRAGWAY
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (4/28/13) – Dacia Powell of Delmar, Md. didn’t let a final round loss last week discourage her. Instead she returned to the U.S. 13 Dragway on Sunday and won the final round of Jr. Dragster 1 then topped her day by taking the run off win with Jr. Dragster 2 winner, Ryan Jackson of Newark, Md. to earn the $50 Jr. Dragster Shoot Out top prize. Other winners on the day included: W.J. Revell of Georgetown, Del. in Super Pro; Marcus Wongus of Rhodesdale, Md. in Pro; David Manuel of Pittsville, Md. in Pro Bike and Gary Stickles of Delmar, Md. in Street Eliminator.
Dacia Powell faced Brittany Hooper of Hurlock, Md. in the Jr. Dragster 1 final. Hooper had the better reaction time but broke out with an 8.964/71.22 on an 8.98 dial and the win went to Powell who ran a 9.036/71.29 on an 8.96 dial. In the Jr. Dragster 2 final it was Ryan Jackson paired against Amanda Clem of Hurlock, Md. Clem left too early and fouled and Jackson took the win with a solid 7.924/80.73 on a 7.91 dial. In the Jr. Dragster Shoot Out run off, it was Jackson leaving too soon by two one-thousandths of a second and Powell took the win with a 9.090/71.37 on an 8.99 dial.
The Super Pro final matched W.J. Revell in his Camaro against the dragster of Jamie Russell of Dover. Russell had a red light foul and Revell took the win with a 9.690/136.19 on a 9.65 dial. Semi-finalists were Frank Lecates of Salisbury who lost to Revell and Billy Groton of Seaford, Del. who lost to Russell.
Marcus Wongus in his Chevy Nova met defending point champion, Glenn Groton of Salisbury in his ’78 Firebird in the Pro final. This time it was Groton leaving too early and fouling and Wongus took the win with an off the throttle 17.642/50.87 on a 9.78 dial. Semi-finalists were Ryan Groton of Salisbury who lost to Glenn Groton and Jesse Long of Preston, Md. who lost to Wongus.
David Manuel rode up against Eddie Savage, Jr. of Wallops Island, Va. in the Pro Bike final round. Savage was a little quicker off the start but Manuel had the better run and took the win with a 10.634/120.12 on a 10.59 dial. Savage, Jr. ran a 9.800/138.14 on a 9.72 dial. Semi- finalists were Shawn Riddle of Bridgeville, Del. who lost to Savage, Jr. and last week’s winner, Charles Nock of Greenwood, Del. who lost to Manuel.
The Street Eliminator final matched Gary Stickles in his ’78 Ford Fairmont against John Elias of Delmar, Del. in his ’81 AMC. This time it was Elias turning on the red light at the start and Stickles got the win with a 13.994/95.80 on a 14.02 dial.
