VANCE OWENS TAKES FIRST FRIDAY NIGHT SUPER WIN AT U.S. 13

OwensBy Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (614/13) – Maybe Vance Owens was just waiting for it to get dark as action moved to Friday nights at the U.S. 13 Dragway and Owens picked up the win in Super Pro. The “Denton, Md.� boys were dialed in as John Parks took the final round victory in Pro and defending champion, Frank Parks picked up another win in Street. Pro Bike went to former champion Charles Nock of Greenwood, Del. while Ethan Hubbard of Princess Anne, Md. took the Jr. Dragster 1 win and Ryan Jackson of Newark, Md. took the Jr. Dragster 2 final.

 

Vance Owens pulled into the Super Pro final facing Veanetta Ennis of Pocomoke, Md. Owens had the better reaction in his ’94 Mustang and raced to the win with an 11.426/102.91 on an 11.10 dial. Ennis ran an 8.814/161.20 on an 8.30 dial. Semi-finalists were Glenn Reese of New Castle, Del. who lost to Owens and Rex Lilley of Laurel, Del. who lost to Ennis.

 

John Parks driving his ’68 Camaro was back in the Pro final this time against John Kulaga of Dover in his ’68 Cougar. Parks took the double break-out win with a 10.439/128.11 on a 10.44 dial. Kulaga was out by more with an 11.519/108.60 on an 11.55 dial. Semi-finalists were Roger Ridgeway, Jr. of Dover who lost to Kulaga and Crystal Hudson of Millsboro, Del. who lost to Parks.

 

Charles Nock rode up against Eddie Savage, Jr. of Wallops Island, Va. in the Pro Bike final. Savage, Jr. had a red light foul and Nock took the win with a 9.076/150.82 on a 9.00 dial. Semi-finalists were James Farmer of Denton who lost to Savage, Jr. and Harvey Powell of Salisbury, Md. who lost to Nock.

 

Frank Parks in his “Burrsville Bandit� ‘73 Mustang was once again the car to beat in the Street final. Josh Nichols of Hebron, Md. in his ’79 Ford wasn’t able to dethrone Parks as Parks took the hole shot win with an 11.819/109.18 on an 11.76 dial. Nichols had a 15.198 on a 15.19 dial but was late at the start.

 

The Jr. Dragster 1 final was a good matchup between Ethan Hubbard and Brittany Hooper of Hurlock. Hooper broke out with an 8.962 on an 8.97 dial and Hubbard was on his dial and took the win with a 12.976/50.94 on a 12.97 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Ryan Jackson taking on Cortney Cathell of Laurel. Cathell had the better start but Jackson had the better run to take the win with a 7.937/81.95 on a 7.93 dial. Cathell ran a 7.952/79.47 on a 7.90 dial.

 

This Friday night will be another exciting Summit E.T. Racing Series event with gates opening at 3:30 p.m. and time runs at 4:30 p.m.
