BILLY GROTON TAKES 2ND WIN IN SUPER PRO FRIDAY NIGHT AT U.S. 13
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (6/21/13) – Second generation drag racer, Billy Groton of Seaford, Del. was back in victory lane for the second time in six weeks as he captured the Super Pro final, Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Rick Willey of Whaleysville, Md. posted his first win of the season in Pro while defending point champion, James Farmer of Denton, Md. added another win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the night were: Hunter Milligan of Bridgeville, Del. in Street, Brittany Hooper of Hurlock, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Christian Walston of Crisfield, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.
The Super Pro final was between two drivers that grew up together watching their father’s race, Billy Groton and Vic Gordy of Ellendale, Del. ÂÂÂÂThe pair had great reaction times with Groton posting a .006 and Gordy a .008. Groton would take the win in his ’90 Camaro with an 8.190/162.07 on an 8.16 dial. Gordy broke out with a 9.382/141.08 on a 9.39 dial. Semi-finalist was David Tucker of Ellendale who lost to Gordy while Groton had the bye.
The Pro final matched Rick Willey in his Camaro against Marcus Wongus of Rhodesdale, Md. in a Nova. Wongus had the better reaction but was well off his dial and Willey took the win with a 10.416/108.85 on a 10.26 dial. Wongus ran a 10.378/129.73 on a 9.86 dial. Semi-finalists were Daryl Beauchamp of Princess Anne, Md. who lost to Willey and Tim Foskey of Rhodesdale who lost to Wongus.
James Farmer rode up against Anthony Buckson of Smyrna, Del. in the Pro Bike final. Farmer took the double break-out win with an 8.656/146.34 on an 8.66 dial. Buckson was out by more with a 9.279/134.71 on a 9.29 dial. Semi-finalist was Harvey Powell of Salisbury who lost to Buckson while Farmer had the bye.
Hunter Milligan defeated Josh Nichols of Hebron, Md. in the Street final. Milligan in his Camaro ran a 14.006/99.78 on a 13.98 dial while Nichols broke out with a 15.237/87.32 on a 15.27 dial.
Brittany Hooper was the Jr. Dragster 1 final round winner over Nicholas Bowie of Greensboro, Md. Bowie had the better reaction but ran out with a 12.952/48.93 on a 13.02 dial. Hooper got the win with a solid 8.944/72.17 on an 8.90 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Christian Walston over Willow Gunter of Delmar. Walston took the win with a 7.982/78.91 on a 7.90 dial while Gunter was late at the start and ran a 7.957/81.11 on a 7.91 dial.
This Friday night will be another exciting Summit E.T. Racing Series program plus the “Jr. Shoot-Out� between the winners of Jr. Dragster 1 and Jr. Dragster 2. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with time runs at 4:30 p.m.
