BEN PARKS WIN SUPER - DACIA POWELL AGAIN IN JR. SHOOTOUT
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/19/13) – Ben Parks of Salisbury, Md. added his name to the Super Pro win column in a great final round against Mike Jones also of Salisbury. Kevin Parks of Greensboro, Md. drove his altered to the win in Pro while Harvey Powell of Salisbury was back on top in Pro Bike. Other winners on the night were: Gary Stickles of Delmar, Md. in Street; Dacia Powell of Salisbury in Jr. Dragster 1 and the Jr. Dragster Shoot-Out; Alex Bradford of Newark, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2 and Ryan Jackson in the Mason Dixon Race of Champions Runoff.
It was a pair of seven second dragsters in the Super Pro final as Ben Parks and Mike Jones squared off. Parks had a .019 reaction to Jones’ .024 and edged out the win with a 7.939/167.66 on a 7.92 dial. Jones had a 7.645/170.87 on a 7.63. Semi-finalist was Billy Groton of Seaford who lost to Jones while Parks had the bye.
Kevin Parks faced defending champion, Glenn Groton of Salisbury in the Pro final. Â Parks took the win with a 9.336/127.82 on a 9.33 dial while Groton ran a 10.804/122.93 on a 10.79 dial. Semi-finalist was Jim Williams of Seaford who lost to Parks while Groton had the bye.
Harvey Powell rode up against defending Pro Bike champion, James Farmer of Denton, Md. in the final round. Farmer had a red light foul and Powell added another win with a 9.700/133.41 on a 9.71 dial. Semifinalist was Anthony Buckson of Smyrna, Del. who lost to Farmer while Powell had the bye.
In the Street final it was Gary Stickles taking on Josh Davis of Seaford. Davis broke out with a 12.376 on a 12.39 dial and Stickles got the win with a solid 14.279/94.49 on a 14.25 dial in his ’78 Ford Fairmont.
Dacia Powell faced Nyck Shirkey of Ridgely, Md. in the Jr. Dragster 1 final. Powell had the better reaction and took the win with an 8.951/72.46 on an 8.92 dial. Shirkey ran a 12.970/50.26 on a 12.92 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Alex Bradford up against Christian Walston of Crisfield, Md. Bradford had the better reaction and took the win with an 8.085/78.62 on an 8.05 dial. Walston ran a 7.923/82.44 on a 7.90 dial.
In the Jr. Dragster Shootout, it was Powell against Bradford. Powell collected her second $50 Shootout win on the season with an 8.984/7209 on an 8.97 dial. Bradford had an 8.079/80.55 on an 8.04 dial. In the Mason/Dixon RoC Runoff it was Dacia Powell taking on Ryan Jackson. Jackson had the better reaction and ended Powell’s near perfect night with an 8.063.74.60 on a 7.97 dial. Powell ran an 8.989/72.17 on an 8.94 dial. Wednesday night will be Tune & Test night. Gates open at 5 p.m. with runs from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.Â
