US 13 Dragway
DENNIS LONG CAPTURES SUPER PRO FINAL FRIDAY NIGHT
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/26/13) – Dennis Long of Chesapeake City, Md. drove his dragster to the final round victory, Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Marcus Wongus of Rhodesdale, Md. took the win in Pro while Harvey Powell of Salisbury, Md. continued his win streak in Pro Bike. Other winners on the night included: Chuck Wayne of Millsboro, Del. in Street; Dacia Powell of Salisbury, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Cortney Cathell of Laurel, Del. in Jr. Dragster 2.
Dennis Long faced Brooks Moore of Salisbury in the Super Pro final. The two were even at the starting line but Moore was a little too quick and broke out with a 10.901/120.78 on a 10.91 dial. Long took the victory with a 7.802/168.47 on a 7.79 dial. Semi-finalist were David Lowe of Salisbury who lost to Moore and Mark Cathell of Seaford, Del. who lost to Long.
The Pro final matched Marcus Wongus in his Nova against the Camaro of Jim Williams of Seaford. Williams was late at the start and Wongus took the win with a 9.643/134.75 on a 9.61 dial. Williams ran a 9.430/143.51 on a 9.40 dial. Semi-finalists were Steven Johnson of New Castle, Del. who lost to Williams and John Henderson of Frederica, Del. who lost to Wongus.
Harvey Powell seems to be a man on a mission as he rode to his third win in a row in Pro Bike. Powell took on Charles Nock of Greenwood and had a .005 reaction to Nock’s .047. Powell ran a 9.620/132.41 on a 9.52 dial. Nock had an 8.804/157.83 on an 8.72 dial. Semi-finalists were Brandon Clark of Frankford, Del. who lost to Nock and Marquise Blake of Frankford who lost to Powell.
Chuck Wayne in his ’82 Cutlass took the win in the Street final. Wayne ran an 11.833/111.01 on an 11.79 dial while Carey in his Chevy S-10 broke out with an 11.522/118.65 on an 11.53 dial.
Dacia Powell continued to increase her points lead in Jr. Dragster 1 by taking the win over Nicholas Bowie of Greensboro, Md. Bowie had a red light foul while Powell ran an 8.962/72.24 on an 8.95 dial. Cortney Cathell demonstrated why she is at the top of the Jr. Dragster 2 standings by running dead on her dial with a 7.900/79.70 on a 7.90 dial to defeat former champion, Shelby Birely of Salisbury who ran a 7.923/80.89 on a 7.90 dial.
This Friday night will be the 5th Bad 8 eliminations plus the Jr. Shoot Out and Summit E.T. Racing Series action. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with time runs at 4:30.
