2013 POINT CHAMPIONS CROWNED SUNDAY AT THE U.S. 13 DRAGWAY

The 7th Annual Super Ford Show, Shine and Drags capped off the 2013 Summit E.T. Racing Point Series on Sunday in grand style. Kevin Grasson of Olney, Md. topped a solid field of nostalgia cars in the 422 All-Stars portion of the event. Other winners on the day included Ben Parks of Salisbury, Md. in Super Pro; Jesse Long of Preston, Md. in Pro; Chris Lynch of Ocean View, Del. in Pro Bike; Sara Davis of Laurel, Del. in Street; Dacia Powell of Salisbury in Jr. Dragster 1 and Katelyn Muir of Delmar, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.

 

The day’s racing ended the 2013 Summit E.T. Racing Point Series as the top drivers now prepare to compete in the NHRA Division 1 Bracket Finals later this month at the Numidia Dragway in Catawissa, Pennsylvania on September 18th to 21st. Laura Landry of Townsend, Del. became only the second female ever to win the Super Pro title since Mildred Layfield did it in 1983. Jesse Long of Preston, Md. captured his first Pro championship while James Farmer of Denton, Md. rode to his 7th title in Pro Bike. Frank Parks of Denton made it two in a row in Street. Dacia Powell earned her first championship in Jr. Dragster 1 while Christian Walston of Crisfield, Md. claimed his first Jr. Dragster 2 championship.

 

In the 422 All-Stars Nostalgia final it was Kevin Grasson in his ’64 Dodge taking on Stephen Vargo of Collegeville, Pa. in his Ford. Vargo broke out with a 9.804/132.00 on a 9.85 dial and Grasson got the win running a 10.166/127.40 on a 10.15 dial.

 

The Super Pro final paired Ben Parks in his S&W Dragster against Keith Mayers of Middletown, Del. in his big block Chevy powered Porsche. Parks had a .009 reaction light and drove to his second win of the season and to finish second overall in points. Parks ran an 8.208/160.00 on an 8.17 dial for the win. Mayers ran a 10.872/152.31 on a 10.83 dial. Semi-finalists were Tommy Ketterman of Salisbury who lost to Parks and Mary Passwaters of Bridgeville, Del. who lost to Mayers.

 

Jesse Long sealed his point championship with a final round victory over Brain Riebert, Jr. of Salisbury in Pro. Long had the better reaction and was on his dial in his ’70 Mustang running a 10.814/117.23 on a 10.81 dial. Riebert, Jr. was too quick running an 11.245/116.83 on an 11.26 dial. Semi-finalist was Janet Baden of Milersville, Md. who lost to Long while Riebert, Jr. had the bye.

 

Chris Lynch rode up against John Bartkovich of Salisbury in the Pro Bike final. Lynch had the better reaction and took the win with a 13.610/93.79 on a 13.50 dial. Bartkovich was late at the start but on his dial with a 13.967/90.54 on a 13.96 dial. Semi-finalist was James Farmer, Jr. of Milford, Del. who lost to Bartkovich while Lynch had the bye.

 

The Street final matched Sara Davis in her ’71 Camaro against the ’78 Fairmont of Gary Stickles of Delmar, Md. Davis had the better reaction and drove to the win with a 12.953/99.49 on a 12.93 dial. Stiickles had a 14.065/95.07 on a 14.04 dial.

 

In Jr. Dragster 1 it was Dacia Powell going up against Morgan Larkin of Salisbury. Powell closed out her championship season with her seventh final round win and a run of 9.034/72.17 on a 9.00 dial while Larkin broke out with an 8.908/74.73 on an 8.96 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Kately Muir facing Paul Riddle, Jr. of Millsboro, Del. Muir became the 12th different winner in the class with a run of 7.925/82.97 on a 7.90 dial. Riddle, Jr. ran an 8.117/79.44 on an 8.09 dial.

 

This Sunday will be the “High School Challenge� plus exciting E.T. racing. Gates open at 10 a.m. with time runs at 11 a.m.Parks 2
