BEN PARKS WINS AGAIN IN SUPER PRO FINAL SUNDAY AT U.S. 13
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE = Ben Parks of Salisbury, Md. drove to his second consecutive win and his third of the season Sunday at the U.S 13 Dragway. Vincent Wade of Eden, Md. captured the Pro final while Marquise Blake of Frankford, Del. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Sharon Landry of Townsend, Del. in Street; Dacia Powell of Salisbury in Jr. Dragster 1, Matthew Wilkinson of Salisbury in Jr. Dragster 2 and Taylor Pavone of Seaford, Del. in High School Eliminator.Â
Ben Parks was back in the Super Pro final round this week this time facing Dustin Godwin of Salisbury. Godwin had the better reaction but broke out with a 10.659 on a 10.71 dial while Parks ran an 8.141/163.54 on an 8.13 dial for the win. Semi-finalist was Mike Hooper of Hurlock, Md. who lost to Godwin while Parks had the bye.
Vincent Wade faced Ryan Groton of Laurel, Del. in the Pro final. Wade, in his Chevy S-10, had the better reaction and rode it to his first win of the season with a 10.592/122.78 on a 10.57 dial. Groton lost with a 12.075/111.35 on a 12.07 dial. Semi-finalist was Tim Foskey of Rhodesdale, Md. who lost to Wade while Groton had the bye.
Marquise Blake rode up against Turon Davis of Berlin, Md. in the Pro Bike final. In the heads-up run, Blake had the better reaction and rode to his third win with a 9.113/149.17 on a 9.05 dial. Davis broke out with a 9.037/152.51 on a 9.05. Semi-finalists were Morgan Hudson of Berlin who lost to Davis and Demonta Wongus of Cambridge, Md. who lost to Blake.
Sharon Landry met Tyler Wheatley of Seaford in the Street final. Landry had the better reaction time and took the win with a 17.436/74.76 on a 17.42 dial. Wheatley ran a 13.103/84.21 on a 12.20 dial. In the High School Eliminator final it was Taylor Pavone of Seaford facing Shelby Bireley of Salisbury, Md. Pavone had the better start and won with a 16.590/82.83 on a 16.10 dial while Bireley had a 20.840/63.73 on a 20.50 dial. Pavone will now represent the U.S. 13 Dragway in the High School Eliminator at the NHRA Division 1 Bracket Finals in two weeks.
Dacia Powell continued her dream season in Jr. Dragster 1. Powell met Caitlyn Hooper of Hurlock, Md. in the final. Powell drove to her eighth win of the season with a 8.946/73.83 on an 8.95 dial after Hooper left too early and fouled. Matthew Wilkinson posted his first win defeating Shelby Bireley. In the heads-up 7.90 dial run Wilkinson took the win with a 7.946/80.00. Bireley was off the pace with a 9.337/49.61.
