MIKE JONES CLOSES OUT APRIL WITH SUPER PRO WIN AT U.S. 13 DRAGWAY
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Mike Jones of Salisbury, MD ended the month of April in style capturing the Super Pro final Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Jim Willams of Seaford, Del. drove to the win in Pro while James Farmer of Denton, Md. made it two in a row in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Gavin Truitt of Frankford, Del. in Street Eliminator; Marc Dell’Angelo of Magnolia, Del. in Hot Rod Trophy; Tyler Powell of Salisbury in Jr. Dragster 2 and Keith Riddle of Millsboro, Del. in both Jr. Dragster 1 and the Jr. Shoot Out.
Mike Jones squared off against David Lowe of Salisbury in the Super Pro final. Jones had the better start and took the win with a 7.472/169.55 on a 7.46 dial. Lowe in his Pontiac ran a 9.367/146.05 on a 9.34 dial. Semi-finalists were Glenn Reese of New Castle, Del. who lost to Jones and Jamie Russell of Dover, Del. who lost to Lowe.
Jim Williams faced Ryan Groton of Laurel, Del. in a battle of Camaros in the Pro final. Groton had a red light foul at the start and Williams took the win with a 9.404/144.97 on a 9.39 dial. Semi-finalist was Buddy Layfield of Parsonsburg, Md. who lost to Groton while Williams had the bye.
James Farmer rode into the Pro Bike final for the second straight weekend this time facing David Manuel of Pittsville, Md. Farmer had a .009 reaction light and rode to his second consecutive win with an 8.576/134.40 on an 8.54 dial. Manuel ran a 10.329/128.68 on a 10. 29 dial. Semi-finalist was John Bartkovich of Salisbury who lost to Manuel while Farmer had the bye.
Gavin Truitt defeated Sara Davis of Laurel in the Street final. Davis had the better reaction but Truitt had the better run with an 11.688/113.73 on an 11.65 dial while Davis ran an 11.886/108.93 on an 11.81 dial. Mike Shannahan of Cambridge, Md. left early and fouled and Marc Dell’Angelo took the Hot Rod win with a 13.174/106.39 on a 13.25 dial.
In Jr. Dragster 1 action Keith Riiddle was paired with James Paylor of North East, Md. Riddle took the win with an 8.954/70.42 on an 8.90 dial. Paylor ran a 9.163/69.16 on an 8.99 dial. In the Jr. 2 final it was Tyler Powell taking on Hope Clarke of Parsonsburg. Powell had the better start and took the win with an 8.040/73.21 on a 7.90 dial. Clarke ran an 8.795/72.53 on an 8.78 dial. In the Jr. Dragster Shoot Out it was Riddle over Powell. Riddle had a .003 reaction and ran an 8.958/71.46 on an 8.94 dial. Powell had a 7.924/81.63 on a 7.90 dial.
This Sunday, May 4th may very well be the fastest day of racing during the season and Jerry Ketterman presents the “Super Bad 8� plus Summit E.T. Racing Series action and Super Bonus Day. Gates open at 10 a.m. with qualifying at 11 a.m. and eliminations around 2:30 p.m.
