FRANK LECATES BACK ON TOP IN SUPER PRO AT U.S. 13 DRAGWAY

 

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (5/18/14) – It was a former champion over the defending champion when Frank Lecates of Salisbury, Md. defeated Laura Landry of Townsend, Del. in the Super Pro final Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Rodger Ridgeway, Jr. of Dover was the winner in Pro and James Farmer of Denton, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Ronn Carey of Dagsboro, Del. in Street; Vernon Kirkendoll of Smyrna, Del. in Hot Rod; Nyck Shirkey of Ridgely, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Alex Bradford of Newark, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.

 

The Super Pro final was a battle of the champions with Frank Lecates facing Laura Landry. Lecates “sealed the deal� at the start with a .003 reaction and drove to the win with a 7.855/159.51 on a 7.81 dial. Landry broke out with a 9.414/140.36 on a 9.43 dial. Semi-finalists were Frankie Timmons of Bishopville, Md. who lost to Lecates and Louis Pulice of Harrington, Del. who lost to Landry.

 

The Pro final matched Roger Ridgeway, Jr. in his ’78 Mustang against Vincent Wade of Eden, Md. in his ’78 Camaro. Wade left early and fouled and Ridgeway, Jr. made a full pass at 10.070/134.18 on a 10.09 dial for the win. Semi-finalist was Humphrey Maddox, Jr. of Princess Anne, Md. who lost to Ridgeway, Jr. while Wade had the bye.

 

James Farmer rode up against Marquise Blake of Frankford, Del. in the Pro Bike final. Blake had the better reaction but Farmer was dead on his dial for the win with an 8.520/146.10 on an 8.52. Blake ran a 9.045/148.53 on an 8.97 dial. Semi-finalists were John Bartkovich of Salisbury who lost to Farmer while Blake had the bye.

 

Ronn Carey defeated defending Street champion, Frank Parks of Denton in the Street final. The pair were even at the start but Parks broke out with an 11.725 on an 11.74 dial. Carey ran an 11.549/118.54 on an 11.52 dial for the victory. In Hot Rod it was Vernon Kirkendoll taking on Wayne Phippin of Delmar. Phippin had a red light foul and Kirkendoll drove his ’04 Mercury to the win with a 12.841/108.03 on a 12.42 dial.

 

In the Jr. Dragsters, Nyck Shirkey faced Nicholas Bowie in the Jr. 1 fianl. The pair were even off the starting line with Shirkey taking the win with an 11.959/54.81 on an 11.90 dial. Bowie had an 11.997/52.78 on an 11.93 dial. In Jr. 2 Alex Bradford met Cortney Cathell of Laurel, Del. Cathell had the better reaction but broke out with a 7.885 on a 7.90 dial and Bradford got the double break out win by being out by less with a 7.906/82.47 on a 7.92 dial.

 

This Sunday will be another exciting Summit ET Racing Series event plus the Jr. Shoot Out. Gates open at 10 a.m. with time runs at 11 a.m. and eliminations at 2:30 p.m.
