BOBBY INSLEY SWEEPS BAD 8 OPEN WHEEL & SUPER PRO

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Salisbury, Md.’s Bobby Insley went undefeated on Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway as he first won the final in the Bad 8 Open Wheel then went on to win the final in Super Pro. Steven Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. took the win in the Bad 8 Full Body. Vincent Wade of Eden, Md. captured the Pro final while defending Pro Bike champion, James Farmer of Denton, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Ronn Carey of Dagsboro, Del. in Street; Larry Savage of Salisbury in Hot Rod; Cody Drummond of Laurel, Del. on Jr. Dragster 1 and Dacia Powell of Salisbury in Jr. Dragster 2.

 Insley’s banner day started with the Bad 8 Full Body final when he faced former champion, Frank Lecates of Salisbury. Lecates had a red light foul and Insley blasted a 7.606/175.40 for the win. Mike Larkin of Salisbury set Low E.T. in qualifying with a 7.006 and Brian Kunkowski of Laurel posted Top Speed with a 193.67.

 In the Bad 8 Full Body it was Steven Truitt in his Duster up against the Firebird of Clayton Byerly of Henderson, Md. Byerly was too quick and broke out with a 9.108/145.53 on a 9.14 dial while Truitt was on his dial with a 9.255/145.41 on a 9.25. Low E.T. and Top Speed in qualifying was set by Kevin Merritt of Chincoteague, Va. In his ’70 Duster with an 8.144/165.53.

 It was just that kind of perfect day for Insley as Brooks Moore of Salisbury broke in the lanes and Insley made a solo pass for the win in Super Pro. Insley ran a 7.592/175.50 on a 7.59 dial.  Semi-finalists were Horace Willey of Bishopville, Md. who lost to Moore and David Lowe of Salisbury who lost to Insley.

The Pro final paired Vincent Wade and Humphrey Maddox, Jr. of Princess Anne, Md. Maddox, Jr. broke out with a 12.947/105.53 on a 13.01 dial and the win went to Wade who ran a 9.665/147.83 on a 9.64 dial. Semi-finalists were Harold Collins of Dover, Del. who lost to Maddox, Jr. and John Parks of Denton, Md. who lost to Wade.

 James Farmer rode into the Pro Bike final against Morgan Hudson of Berlin, Md. The pair were even on the starting line but Farmer had the better run for the win with an 8.525/139.03 on an 8.48. Hudson was a little off his dial with a 10.524/123.67 on a 10.44. Semi-finalists were Harvey Powell of Parsonsburg who lost to Hudson and David Manuel of Pittsville, Md. who lost to Farmer.

 The Street final was a matchup between Ronn Carey in his ’97 Chevy S-10 and Michael Jefferson of Parsonsburg in a Nova. Carey continued to rack up the wins this season with an 11.636/116.83 on an 11.60 dial. Jefferson broke out with a 13.231/101.47 on a 13.26 dial. In Hot Rod it was Larry Savage over Ryan Watkins of Salisbury. Savage ran a 16.893/62.00 on a 16.30 for the win while Watkins was way late at the line running a 17.501/82.86 on a 16.88 dial.

 In Jr. Dragster action Cody Drummond was back on top in the Jr. 1 final. Drummond faced Keith Riddle of Millsboro, Del. who left early and fouled and Drummond ran an 11.910/55.24 for the win. Defending champion, Dacia Powell picked up her first win of the season in the Jr. 2 final against Tyler Powell of Salisbury. Both racers were on their dial-ins but Dacia had the better reaction and took the win with a 7.906/82.95 on a 7.90. Tyler ran a 7.935/81.40 on a 7.93 dial.

 This week action at the U.S. 13 Dragway moves to Friday nights for the remainder of the summer. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with time runs beginning at 4:30 and Summit E.T. Racing Series eliminations beginning at approximately 8 p.m.
