By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – A field of very quick Bad 8 racers was on hand Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. David Lowe of Salisbury, Md. captured the Bad 8 Full Body final while Jerry Birchfield, Jr. of Essex, Md. had a six second run to win in the Bad 8 Open Wheel. John Henderson of Frederica, Del. took the win in the Street Eliminator final while Frannie Parks of Houston, Del. won in Hot Rod.  Jr. Dragster winners included Brittany Hooper of Hurlock, Md. in Jr. 1 and Amanda Clem of Hurlock in Jr. 2. Finals in Super, Pro and Pro Bike fell victim to the curfew with semi-finalists splitting the purse.

The Bad 8 Open Wheel racers were exceptionally quick on Friday night. Seven of the eight qualifiers were over the 180 mph mark with three over 190 mph. Jimmy Hitchens of Millsboro, Del. set Low E.T. and Top Speed in qualifying with a 6.953/197.49. In the Open Wheel final it was Jerry Birchfield, Jr. taking on Bobby Insley of Salisbury. The pair were even off the start but Birchfield, Jr. unleashed a 6.972/191.00 on a 6.96 dial to win by .006 seconds! Insley had a 7.689/172.41 on a 7.67 dial. In the Full Body final it was David Lowe taking on Billy Groton of Seaford. Lowe was on his dial taking the win with an 8.854/149.67 on an 8.85 dial. Groton ran an 8.338/153.95 on an 8.31 dial.

The Street final paired John Henderson and Louis Phillips of Delmar, Md. Phillips left early and turned on the red light and Henderson got the win with an 11.945/111.63 on an 11.91 dial. In the Hot Rod final it was Frannie Parks over Joe Schmidt of Westover, Md. Schmidt had a red light foul and Parks ran a 14.038/97.52 on a 14.10 dial for the win.

In Jr. Dragster action it was a great night for the young women from Hurlock. Brittany Hooper faced Nyck Shirkey of Ridgely, Md. in the Jr. 1 final. Shirkey had the better reaction but Hooper drove by at the finish line for the win with an 8.952/70.54 on an 8.90 dial. Shirkey had a 9.124/64.39 on an 8.98 dial. In Jr. 2 it was Amanda Clem paired against Ketelyn Muir of Salisbury. Clem had the better start and took the win with an 8.002/80.27 on a 7.99 dial. Muir had a late start but was on her dial with a 7.964/82.69 on a 7.96 dial.

A couple of lengthy oil down clean ups and some technology issues brought the night to an early end with the curfew. Splitting the purse in Super were semi-finalists Danny Bastianelli of Georgetown, Del., Jerry Birchfield, Jr. and Phillip Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. Semi-finalist in Pro were Marcus Wongus of Rhodesdale, Md. and Chad Thurman of Vienna, Md. and in Pro Bike it was Tony Stokes of Middletown, Del. and Donshae Tate of Salisbury.

This Friday night, August 15th will be the final Friday night before switching back to Sunday’s. It will be a Summit E.T. Racing Series program with gates opening at 3:30 p.m. with time runs at 4:30 p.m. and eliminations around 8 p.m.
