PHILLIP TRUITT CAPTURES THE LAST SUPER PRO FINAL ON FRIDAY NIGHT'S

 By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (8/15/14) – It was the final Friday night before switching back to Sunday’s at the U.S. 13 Dragway and Phillip Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. took advantage of the unseasonably cool temperatures to earn another win in Super Pro. Mark Cathell of Seaford, Del. was back on top in the Pro ranks and Marquise Blake of Frankford, Del. scored another victory in Pro Bike. Other winners on the night included: John Henderson of Frederica, Del. in Street; Joe Schmidt of Westover, Md. in Hot Rod; Cody Drummond of Laurel, Del. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Amanda Clem of Hurlock, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.

A pair of local racers, Phillip Truitt and Fred Rogers of Laurel met in the Super Pro final. Truitt had the better reaction in the near heads up start and drove to the win with an 8.040/152.77 on a 7.95 dial-in. Rogers was late at the start and ran an 8.105/156.65 on an 8.05 dial. Semi-finalists were Sterling Clough of Marion, Md. who lost to Rogers and Jerry Russell of Felton, Del. who lost to Truitt.

Mark Cathell took on Pro point leader, Roger Ridgeway, Jr. of Dover, Del. in the Pro final. Cathell in his ’89 Oldsmobile was quicker off the starting line and posted the win with a 9.807/138.78 on a 9.79 dial-in. Ridgeway, Jr. ran a 9.047/147.66 on a 9.03 dial. Semi-finalists were Jim Williams of Seaford who lost to Cathell and Daryl Beauchamp of Princess Anne, Md. who lost to Ridgeway, Jr.

Marquise Blake rode into the Pro Bike final against Turon Davis of Berlin, Md. It was a very tight run with Blake taking the win by .022 seconds with a run of 8.983/149.70 on an 8.93 dial-in. Davis ran a 9.052/147.17 on an 8.98 dial. Semi-finalists were Brain Wongus of Cambridge, Md. who lost to Blake and Harvey Powell of Parsonsburg who lost to Davis.

John Henderson came out on top for the second week in a row in the Street Eliminator final. Henderson ran an 11.937/111.89 in his ’69 Camaro for the win while Henry Osowiecki of Mardela Springs, Md. red lighted. Joe Schmidt was the runner-up a week ago but this week he took the final over Joe Schwartz of Winter Park, Fla. in Hot Rod. Schmidt was late at the start but Schwartz was too early and red lighted. Schmidt’s ran was a 14.461/95.95 on a 14.20 dial.

In Jr. Dragster action, Cody Drummond was back on top in Jr. 1. Drummond went up against Ethan Hubbard of Princess Anne in the final and took the win with a 9.016/66.93 on an 8.97 dial. Hubbard had an 8.995/72.96 on an 8.99 dial. In Jr. 2 it was Amanda Clem for the second week in a row this time over Katelyn Muir of Salisbury. Clem had the better reaction and took the win with an 8.056/78.48 on an 8.02 dial. Muir was late at the start but on her dial with a 7.919/83.34 on a 7.91 dial.

Action this week starts with a Tune & Test night on Wednesday with gates opening at 5 p.m. and T&T from 6 until 9 p.m. Regular Summit E.T. Racing Series action moves to Sunday, August 24th with the 51st Annual William J. & Juanita Cathell Memorial Chevy Show, Shine and Drags. Once again the Mason-Dixon Classic Chevy Club with host the Chevy Show. There will be no classes but 51 first place, 51 second place and 51 third place awards plus three “Best in Show� awards.
