GLENN REESE CAPTURES SUPER FINAL AT 51ST ANNIVERSARY SHOW SHINE AND DRAGS

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Beautiful weather on Sunday brought out a fantastic crowd of racers, show car enthusiasts and fans for the William J. and Juanita Cathell Memorial 51st Anniversary Show, Shine and Drags at the U.S. 13 Dragway. There were 364 racers and 200 show cars on hand for the event.

 

In the Super Pro final Glenn Reese of New Castle, Del. squared off against Bobby Insley of Salisbury, Md. in the all-dragster heads-up final. Reese took the hole shot $1500 win with a .012 reaction time and a run of 7.637/172.84 on a 7.62 dial-in. Insley had a .026 reaction and ran a 7.625/173.74 on a 7.62 dial. Semi-finalists were Alan Clayville of Laurel, Del. who lost to Reese and Mike Jones of Salisbury who lost to Insley.

 

Chad Thurman of Vienna, Md. met Doug Sylvester of Seaford, Del. in the Pro final. Sylvester left early and fouled and Thurman made a full pass for the win with a 9.842/136.15 on a 9.34 dial. The win was worth $800 for Thurman. Semi-finalist was Roger Ridgeway, Jr. of Dover, Del. who lost to Thurman while Sylvester had the bye.

 

A pair of seasoned champions were to go up against each other in the Pro Bike final. James Farmer of Denton, Md. was to face Charles Nock of Greenwood, Del. Nock broke and Farmer made a full pass at 8.649/146.55 on an 8.64 for the win. Semi-finalists were Anthony Buckson of Smyrna, Del. who lost to Farmer and John Ferguson of Cambridge, Md. who lost to Nock.

 

I.S Terlins of Harbeson, Del. in an ’11 Mustang defeated Robby Derr of Conowingo, Md. in a Camaro in the Street Eliminator final. Derr had the better reaction but Terlins took the win with a 12.929/111.17 on a 12.83 dial. Derr ran an 11.632/110.79 on an 11.50 dial. In Hot Rod it was Ruth Wilkerson of Delmar over Clayton Evans of Parksley, Va. Evans red-lighted and Wilkerson took the win in her ’05 Cadillac with a 15.116/94.06 on a 14.90 dial.

 

In Jr. Dragster action Keith Riddle of Millsboro, Del. was paired with Cody Drummond of Laurel, Del. in the Jr. 1 final. Riddle had the better start and took the win with an 8.957/71.79 on an 8.94 dial. Drummond broke out with an 8.949/72.33 on an 8.95 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Jerel Davis of Salisbury over Ryan Jackson of Newark, Md. Jackson broke out with an 8.016/80.17 on an 8.02 dial while Davis drove to the win with a 7.950/81.00 on a 7.92 dial.

 

This Sunday, Aug, 31st it will be the 8th Annual Ford Motorsports Show hosted by the Cheswold Connection Ford Racing. There will be dash plaques to the first 100 show entries and 27 first place, 27 second place and 27 third place show awards. All show cars must be Ford powered. The 422 Motorsports All Stars will be on hand with their nostalgia race cars plus it will be the final point event in the Summit Racing E.T. Point Series. Gates open at 10 a.m.  with Time Trials at 11 a.m.
