US 13 Dragway
U.S 13 DRAGWAY TO BECOME IHRA MEMBER TRACK IN 2015
Since 1963, the Cathell Family, have owned and operated the premiere Motorsports Complex on the Delmarva Peninsula. Following in the footsteps of his late father, William J. Cathell, CEO Charles Cathell  operates the Dragway along with his family members approximately 35 weekends a year. In 2015, it will mark the 52 year of drag racing in the state of Delaware. This complex consumes approximately 155 acre, hosting a multitude of events on a weekly basis. Operating nearly year round, with visitors attending from several surrounding states, they have been ranked 2nd in their county and 8th in the state of Delaware by the Delaware State Tourism Division. On the complex you will find 3 unique racing operations. A quarter mile Dragway, half mile dirt oval and karting facility are all on one property. These three facilities, plus a charitable winter holiday event in the months of November and December, bring in a combined attendance exceeding 100,000 annually.
The Dragway operates on a seasonal schedule, from the months of March through October. In March, April and May, they operate on a Sunday run schedule. During the summer in, June, July and August, they run a Friday night schedule. In the fall, the Dragway returns to it Sunday scheduling to complete the racing season. Their primary markets consist of Kent and Sussex County in Delaware. On the Maryland side, patrons from Wicomico, Worchester, Somerset, Dorchester, and Talbot Counties visit weekly. Virginians also attend from as far away as Accomack County on the eastern shore. The Motorplex employs over100 seasonal staff members, providing economic stability for residents of these surrounding areas. The cost of admission to attend regularly scheduled weekly events as well as specialty shows, range from, $12 to $20 dollars for spectators. Four money classes (Electronic, Non-Electronic, Motorcycle and Street) plus Jr. Dragsters and Trophy cars are the weekly headliners. Since 1963, the family has honored admitting children under the age of 13 free admission.
VIP Suite located on the third floor of the timing tower is used to entertain sponsors and invited guest up to 25 people. This suite gives breath taking panoramic views of the entire facility. From web-links, to highly visible signage to exclusive events sponsorships the Dragway offers customized packages for supporters of the sport. Two large concession buildings, serve food and beverages for patrons to purchase while attending nightly events. This family owned and operated business is proud to acknowledge that over the 52 years they have witnessed over three generations of fans and racers coming out to support the facility.
