LAURA LANDRY WINS SEASON POINT OPENER AT U.S. 13 DRAGWAY
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – 2013 Point Champion, Laura Landry of Selbyville, Del. got her 2015 season off to a great start as she captured the IHRA ET Series Top Eliminator final Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Ryan Groton of Laurel, Del. took the final round win in Pro will defending Pro Bike Champion, James Farmer of Denton, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Josh Davis of Seaford, Del. in Street; Sam Adkins of Seaford in Hot Rod; Keith Riddle of Millsboro, Del. in Jr. Dragster 1 and defending champion, Jacob Bowie of Greensboro, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.
It was an all door car final in Top Eliminator as Laura Landry in her ’67 Chevelle faced Mark Cathell driving an ’89 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Cathell got to leave first and was a hair quicker off the start but Landry put together a great run to take the win at the finish. Landry ran a 9.408/140.97 on a 9.40 dial while Cathell had a 9.818/139.14 on a 9.80 dial. Semi-finalist was Toya Peek in her ’69 Camaro who lost to Cathell while Landry had the bye.
The Pro final matched Ryan Groton in his ’78 Camaro against Michael Vandenheuvel in his ’84 Olds. Groton had the better reaction and took the win with an 11.959/111.28 on an 11.93 dial. Vandenheuvel broke out with an 11.465/113.45 on an 11.50 dial. Semi-finalists were Tim Foskey, Jr. who lost to Groton and Glen Isom who lost to Vandenheuvel.
The Pro Bike final matched two of the best with defending U.S. 13 Dragway champion taking on defending Maryland International Raceway champion, Jimmie Miller in the final. It was a double break-out run with Farmer taking the win with an 8.448/152.15 on an 8.45 dial while Miller ran an 8.990/148.36 on a 9.02 dial. Semi-finalist was Turon Davis who lost to Miller while Farmer had the bye.
Josh Davis in his ’77 Pacer captured the Street final over Sharon Landry in her ’02 Camaro. Landry left early and fouled and Davis ran a 12.326/106.69 on a 12.30 dial. In the Hot Rod final it was Sam Adkins in his ’96 Firebird taking the win over Henry Osowiecki in his Chevy S-10. Osowiecki left too early and fouled and Adkins ran a 13.849/99.18 on a 13.75 for the win.
Keith Riddle got off to a great start in Jr. Dragster 1 competition taking the win over Nyck Shirkey. Shirkey broke out with an 8.883/69.61 on an 8.90 dial while Riddle got the win with an 8.998/62.07 on an 8.97 dial. In Jr. Dragster two it was defending champion Jacob Bowie taking the win over former Jr. 1 champion Dacia Powell. Bowie had the better start and ran a 7.998/80.52 on a 7.96 dial while Powell was too quick with a 7.945/82.43 on a 7.98 dial-in.
