BEN PARKS WINS WEEK TWO AT THE U.S. 13 DRAGWAY

 

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – It was a picture perfect day for drag racing on Sunday. Ben Parks of Salisbury, Md. held point leader, Toya Peek to win in Top Elimiiator. Jamar Wongus of Rhodesdale, Md. had a perfect reaction time and won the Mod final while Drew Birch of Whaleysville, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Michael Jefferson of Parsonsburg, Md. in Street; Ed Tull of Willards, Md. in Hot Rod; Cody Drummond of Laurel in Jr. Dragster 1 and the Shootout and Jacob Bowie of Greensboro, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.

 

Ben Parks faced Toya Peek (who ended her day in the Semi-Finals last week) in the Top final. Parks had a .009 reaction light and drove to the win with a 7.819/167.37 on a 7.80 dial. Peek had a 9.735/137.99 on a 9.71 dial. Semi-finalist was Christian Walston of Crisfield, Md. who lost to Peek while Parks had the bye.

 

In the Pro Final it was Jamar Wongus in his Nova taking on Kevin Yates in his ’78 Ford. Wongus cut a perfect .000 reaction time and ran a 10.359/126.79. Yates was a little too anxious at the start and had an -.008 red light foul. Semi-finalist was Humphrey Maddox, Jr. who lost to Yates while Wongus had the bye.

 

Drew Birch rode into the Pro Bike final on his ZX10 facing Brian Wongus on s Suzuki. Wongus was late and the start and Birch rode to the win with a 9.045/123.57 on an 8.68 dial. Wongus had a 9.832/142.15 on a 9.59 dial. Semi-finalist was Earl Davis who lost to Wongus while Birch had the bye.

 

In the Street final it was Michael Jefferson in his ’66 Chevelle up against the ’78 Fairmont of defending Street Champion, Gary Stickles. Jefferson had the better start and took the win with a 13.153/98.24 on a 13.08 dial. Stickles ran a 13.656/97.60 on a 13.63. In Hot Rod it was Ed Tull in his ’66 Chevelle taking the win over Charles Appler in his ’41 Ford. Appler red-lighted and Tull ran a 13.891/84.89 on a 13.61 dial.

 

Cody Drummond was paired against Carter Foskey in the Jr. Dragster 1 final. Drummond took the win with an 8.945/69.19 on an 8.92 dial. Foskey ran a 9.185/71.25 on a 9.13 dial. In Jr. 2 it was last week’s winner, Jacob Bowie taking on Kody Mariner. Bowie took the double break-out win with a 7.933/81.69 on a 7.96 dial. Mariner was out by a tad more running a 7.931/80.96 on a 7.96. In the Shootout between the two division winners, Drummond had the better reaction and took the win with an 8.957/69.52 on an 8.92 dial. Bowie ran a 7.955/81.68 on a 7.94 dial.

 

This week will be another ET Points Series event plus the first “Crazy 8’s Bike Showdown�. Gates open at 10 a.m. with qualifying at 11 a.m. and eliminations at 2 p.m.
