BEN GARNETT WINS PRO & SHOWDOWN – BEN PARKS REPEATS IN TOP Â

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – A break in the weather provided a beautiful day for drag racing Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Ben Parks of Salisbury, Md. picked up his second win in the early season in Top Eliminator while Ben Garnett of Smyrna, Del. drove to the win in Pro. In the Super vs. Pro Showdown it was Garnett over Parks. Other winners on the day included: Turon Davis of Georgetown, Del. in Pro Bike; Josh Davis of Seaford, Del. in Street; Ed Tull of Willards, Md. in Hot Rod; Alexis Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2 and Zach Shirkey of Ridgely, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1.

It was Parks against Paul Riddle in the Top Eliminator final. Riddle broke out with a 9.925 on a 9.94 dial-in and Parks got the win with a 7.851/169.45 on a 7.80 dial. Semi-finalists were Mark Cathell who lost to Riddle and Vernon Russell who lost to Parks.

Garnett, in his ’71 Maverick faced John Henderson in his ’69 Camaro in the Pro final. The pair were even at the start but Garnett was dead on his dial with a 9.580/137.65 on a 9.58 dial. Henderson had an 11.781/112.95 on an 11.74. Semi-finalists were Ryan Groton who lost to Garnett and Jim Williams who lost to Henderson.

In the Top vs. Pro Showdown, Parks would run dead on his dial with a 7.830 ln a 7.83 but was late at the start allowing Garnett to take the win with a 9.596/137.44 on a 9.57 dial.

Last week’s Crazy 8 winner, Turon Davis rode into the Pro Bike final facing Antaine Nock. Nock had a red light foul and Davis rode to the win with an 8.847/154.95 on an 8.80 dial. Semi-finalist was Drew Birch who lost to Davis while Nock had the bye run.

It was a heads-up final in Street between Josh Davis in his ’77 Pacer and Michael Jefferson in his Nova. Jefferson left early and fouled and Davis made it three out of four with a run of 12.232/108.47 on a 12.24 dial.

Ed Tull picked up his second win in Hot Rod over Frannie Parks. Parks had the better reaction but was off his dial and Tulll took the win with a 13.705/93.77 on a 13.62 dial. Parks ran a 14.029/96.97 on a 13.85 dial.

The Jr. Dragster 1 final matched Zach Shirkey against Keith Riddle. Shirkey had a .014 reaction light and drove to the win with an 11.944/55.52 on an 11.93 dial. Riddle had a solid 8.970/71.60 on an 8.94 dial.

Jr. Dragster 2 paired Alexis Truitt and Kody Mariner. Truitt had the better run to take the win with a 7.974/83.49 on a 7.93 dial while Mariner ran an 8.140/80.22 on an 8.94 dial.

This Sunday will be Jerry Ketterman’s Super Bad 8 Spring Nationals. Come out and see some of the fastest cars in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Gates open at 10 a.m. with qualifying at 11 a.m. and eliminations at 2:30 p.m.
