STEVEN TRUITT WINS IN TOP ELIMINATOR SUNDAY - MICHAEL JEFFERSON HEADS "IMPORT INVASION"

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Second generation driver, Steven Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. scored his first win of the 2015 season taking the Top Eliminator final, Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Chad Thurman of Vienna, Md. drove to his second consecutive win in Pro and Brian Wongus of Cambridge, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners of the day included: Ronn Carey of Dagsboro, Del. in Street; Joe Schwartz of Winter Park, Fla. In Hot Rod; Michael Jefferson of Parsonsburg in Import; Keith Riddle of Millsboro, Del. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Alex Bradford of Newark, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.

 

In the Top Eliminator final it was Steven Truitt in his ’70 Plymouth Duster taking on the rear engine dragster of Frank Lecates. Truitt sealed the deal at the start with a .008 reaction light and then ran a 9.235/138.69 on a 9.22 dial-in for the win. Lecates ran a 7.919/167.84 on a 7.89 dial. Semi-finalists were Doug Milner who lost to Lecates and Bobby Insley who lost to Truitt.

 

Chad Thurman made it to the Pro final for the second straight week this time facing Crystal Hudson of Millsboro. Thurman drove his ’69 Camaro to his second consecutive win in the double break-out final running a 9.852/135.41 on a 9.86. Hudson was out by more running a 10.180 on a 10.20 dial. Semi-finalist were Ben Garnett who lost to Thurman and Ernie Fisher who lost to Hudson.

 

Brian Wongus rode up against Rick Cahal  in the Suzuki vs. Yamaha Pro Bike final. Wongus used his quicker start to take the win with a 9.491/142.09 on a 9.45 dial. Cahal ran a 12.600/98.46 on a 12.58 dial. Semi-finalists were Roland Powell who lost to Cahal and Brice Cornish, Jr. who lost to Wongus.

 

It was “Import Invasion� day and the final round matched Michael Jefferson in his Toyota against Stevie Miles in a Mazda. Miles was too quick and broke out and Jefferson took the win with a 12.217/111.24 on a 12.20 dial.

 

The Street final paired Ronn Carey and Brenda Layton, both driving ’97 Chevy S-10 pickups. Carey took the victory running a 12.321/98.34 on a 12.05 dial. Layton had a 13.106/98.67 on a 12.70 dial.

 

For the third time in two seasons, Joe Schwartz in his Nova faced the Dodge Charger of Joe Schmidt. Schwartz took the “series� lead two wins to one with a run of 12.495/101.03 on a 12.45 dial. Schmidt broke out with a 13.285/99.71 on a 13.30 dial.truitt

 

Keith Riddle remained on top of his game driving to his second consecutive win and his fifth of the season in Jr. Dragster 1. Riddle took the hole shot win against Nyck Shirkey in the heads-up run with a 9.060/67.08 on a 9.00 dial. Shirkey was late at the start running a 9.044/71.94 on a 9.00.

 

Alex Bradford met Alexis Truitt in the Jr. Dragster 2 final. Bradford was on his dial and scored his first win of the season with a 7.965/80.89 on a 7.96 dial. Truitt ran a 7.959/82.46 on a 7.92 dial after leaving too early and fouling at the start.

 

It will be Super E.T. “Take a Chance Day� as action moves to Friday nights for the remainder of the summer on June 5th. All bracket classes plus Hot Rod will be in action with gates opening at 3:30 p.m., Time Runs at 4:30 p.m. and eliminations at 8 p.m.
