STERLING CLOUGH STILL HAS THE RIGHT STUFF – WINS TOP ELIMINATOR & SHOOTOUT AT U.S. 13
By CHARLIE BROWN, DELMAR, DE – The “Mayor of Marion� Sterling Clough proved that he has not lost a step in four decades of drag racing. With nearly a dozen championships under his belt, Clough captured the Top Eliminator final Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway then won the Super vs. Pro Shootout against Tim Foskey, Jr. of Rhodesdale, Md. to cap off a perfect night. John Ferguson of Cambridge, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike while Michael Jefferson of Parsonsburg, Md. took the final in Street Eliminator. Other winners included: Jonathan Osowiecki of Salisbury, Md. in Hot Rod; Keith Riddle of Millsboro, Del. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Jacob Bowie of Greensboro, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.
Clough advanced to the Top final with a win over Bobby Insley in the Semi-finals. Steven Boone did likewise with a win over David Lowe in the Semi-final round. The pair had nearly identical reaction lights but Clough was on his game and on his dial running 8.686/152.54 on an 8.68 dial-in for the win. Boone ran a blistering 7.319/182.74 on a 7.29 dial.
It was Ford vs. Chevy in the Pro final as Tim Foskey, Jr. in his Mustang faced Jim Williams in his Camaro. Foskey was on his dial and took the win with a 10.203/124.55 on a 10.20 dial. Williams ran a solid 9.582/141.84 on a 9.52 dial. Semi-finalists were Andy Davenport who lost to Foskey, Jr. and Ralph Finney who lost to Williams.
In the Super vs. Pro Shootout Clough’s .022 reaction was just enough to defeat Foskey, Jr. who had a .033. Clough ran an 8.691/152.61 on an 8.68 to Foskey, Jr.’s 10.192/128.25 on a 10.18.
John Ferguson on his GSXR 1000 rode to his second win of the season in Pro Bike. Ferguson faced Turon Davis in the final round. Davis left too early and red-lighted and Ferguson rode to the win with a 9.599/146.27 on a 9.46 dial. Semi-finalist was Brice Cornish, Jr. who lost to Davis while Ferguson had the bye.
It was win No. 2 for Michael Jefferson in his Toyota in Street Eliminator. Jefferson had the better reaction against Sara Davis in the final and went on to the victory with a 12.099/106.47 on a 12.09 dial. Davis ran a 12.063/111.26 on a 12.04 dial.
In Hot Rod it was Jonathan Osowiecki in his ’85 Chevy S-10 over Kahn Cope driving an ’86 Buick Regal. Osowiecki had the better reaction and ran a 12.325/105.26 on a 12.00 dial. Cope had a 13.237/103.24 on a 13.07 dial.
Keith Riddle continued on a roll in Jr. Dragster 1 tallying his sixth win of the year. Riddle faced Kayla Holden in the final and used his better reaction to take the win with a 9.020/69.51 on an 8.98 dial. Holden ran a 9.267/68.89 on a 9.22 dial. In Jr. 2 it was Jacob Bowie posting his fifth win over Brittany Hooper. Bowie had the better start in the heads-up double break-out run running a 7.952/81.69 on a 7.96 dial. Hooper was out by a tick more with a 7.957/80.37.
Action continues on Friday night with E.T. Series racing plus the Jr. Shootout. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with time runs at 4:30 p.m. and eliminations at 8 p.m.
