PARKS GETS 3RD WIN IN TOP – MASON & KETTERMAN TAKE BAD 8 SUMMER NATIONALS
By Charlie Brown Delmar, DE – It was a very fast night at the U.S. 13 Dragway on Friday night. So fast that in order to make the Summer Nationals Bad 8 Open Wheel field you had to run a 7.437 E.T. or quicker! W.R. Ketterman of Salisbury, Md. recorded his second win of the season in Bad 8 Open while Carlton Mason of Pocomoke, Md. took the win in Bad 8 Full. It would be Ben Parks of Salisbury coming out on top in Top Eliminator picking up his third win of the season. Other winners on the night included: Tim Foskey, Jr. of Rhodesdale, Md. in Pro; Sherell Blake of Delmar, Md. in Pro Bike; Ronn Carey of Dagsboro, Del. in Street; Joe Schwartz of Winter Park, Fla. In Hot Rod; Cody Drummond of Laurel, Del. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Jacob Bowie of Greensboro, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.
Ben Parks in his dragster faced the nine second Plymouth of Steven Truitt in the Top Eliminator final. Truitt had a .011 reaction to Parks’ .014 but broke out with a 9.242 on a 9.25 dial-in to end his night. Parks was on his dial with an 8.010/167.00 on a 7.99 dial for the win. Semi-finalist was Horace Willey who lost to Truitt while Parks had a perfect reaction light in his bye run.
The Bad 8 Full Body final matched Carlton Mason in his ’70 Chevelle against the ’81 Camaro of Vernon Russell. Mason had a perfect .000 reaction light and drove to the win with an 8.053/165.19 on an 8.04 dial. Russell broke out with an 8.508/158.87 on an 8.51 dial. Don Teague set Low E.T. and Top Speed in qualifying in his ’67 Chevy II with a 7.410/183.71.
The Bad 8 Open Wheel field was a quick one with Wayne Patton setting Low E.T. and Top Speed with a 6.926/194.46! The final paired W.R. Ketterman against Dennis Long. Ketterman was a little quicker at the start and took the win with a 7.313/177.65 on a 7.28 dial. Long ran a 7.469/178.07 on a 7.44 dial.
In was a good matchup in the Pro final between Tim Foskey, Jr. in his ’85 Mustang taking on Ben Garnett in his ’71 Maverick. Foskey’s .003 reaction light “sealed the deal� as he was on his dial with a 10.181/126.63 on a 10.18 for the win. Garnett broke out with a 9.609/138.97 on a 9.62 dial. Semi-finalist was Troy Wongus who lost to Garnett while Foskey had the bye.
For the first time this season Sherell Blake rode into the Pro Bike final facing John Ferguson. In the all-Suzuki final Ferguson had the better start but Blake had the better run taking the win with a 9.483/143.35 on a 9.45 dial. Ferguson was off his dial a little running a 9.545/147.42 on a 9.39. Semi-finalists were David Granados who lost to Ferguson and Marquise Blake who lost to Sherell Blake.
The Street final was good one with Ronn Carey facing Sharon Landry. Only one one-thousandth of a second separated the pair at the start with both racers breaking out at the top end. Carey was out by less to post his second win with a 12.022/114.19 on a 12.05 dial while Landry posted a 13.245/102.44 on a 13.29 dial.
Joe Schwartz picked up his second win of the season in Hot Rod defeating Brandon Ennis. Ennis was late at the start and Schwartz ran a 12.429/98.42 on a 12.37 for the victory. Ennis had a 15.073/85.48 on a 15.04.
In Jr. Dragster action it was Cody Drummond taking on Caitlyn Hooper in the Jr. 1 final. Drummond had a .001 reaction light and went on to his second win with an 8.954/68.22 on an 8.95 dial in the near perfect run. Hooper was on her dial with an 8.907/72.63 on an 8.90 dial. In the Jr. 2 final Alexis Truitt left too early and fouled and defending champion, Jacob Bowie posted his sixth win with a 7.973/81.84 on a 7.95 dial.
