ROGER RIDGEWAY, JR WINS PRO & SUPER VS PRO SHOOTOUT

By CHARLIE BROWN, DELMAR, DE – It was a once in a blue moon night Friday for former Pro champion Roger Ridgeway, Jr. of Dover, Del. Ridgeway captured the Pro final then defeated defending Super champion, Bobby Insley of Crisfield, Md. in the Super vs. Pro Shootout at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Other winners on the night included: Ash Hayward of Fruitland, Md. in Pro Bike; Gary Stickles of Delmar, Md. in Street; Ryan Lecates of Salisbury, Md. in Hot Rod; Keith Riddle of Millsboro, Del. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Tyler Powell of Salisbury, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.

Bobby Insley in his dragster faced Bryan Horner of Delmar, Md. in his ’67 Camaro in the Super final. Insley took advantage of his .008 reaction light to race to his first win of the season with a 7.631/172.94 on a 7.62 dial. Horner had a .015 reaction light and was on his dial with a 9.394/146.10 on a 9.39 but it was not enough. Semi-finalist was Phillip Truitt who lost to Insley while Horner had the bye.

In the Pro final Roger Ridgeway, Jr. in his ’80 Mustang was matched against Ernie Fisher in his ’66 Chevelle. Ridgeway had the better start with a .010 light and drove to his second win of the year with a 10.196/126.56 on a 10.16 dial. Fisher was slower at the start but ran a solid 9.463/135.93 on a 9.45 dial. Semi-finalist was Rick Willey who lost to Fisher while Ridgeway had the bye.

In the Super vs. Pro Shootout between the two winners, Ridgeway had a .013 reaction light an rode it to the win with a 10.180/128.00 on a 10.17 dial. Insley was off his dial running an 8.685/170.22 on a 7.62 dial-in.

Ash Hayward on his Kawasaki rode into the Pro Bike final against Scott Smith also on a Kawasaki. The pair had almost identical reaction times but Smith slowed and Hayward scored his first win of the season with a 9.156/124.56 on a 9.10 dial. Smith coasted to a 17.110/64.12. Semi-finalist was Gavin Cromwell who lost to Hayward while Smith had the bye.

 

Defending Street champion, Gary Stickles in his ’78 Ford Fairmont took on multi-time winner, Josh Davis in his ’77 Pacer in the Street final. Stickles got his second win of the year in the double break-out run with a 13.802/96.54 on a 1382 dial while Davis was out by more with a 12.448/104.01 on a 12.50 dial.

In the Hot Rod final it was Ryan Lecates in his ’88 S-10 Blazer over Roman Skarbek in his ’74 Nova. Lecates ran an 11.721/98.29 on an 11.65 dial for the win while Skarbek was very late at the start an ran an 11.681/114.12 on an 11.67 dial.

It was win number seven for Keith Riddle in the Jr. Dragster 1 final. Riddle was paired against Ethan Hubbard and took the win with a 8.997/69.94 on an 8.99 dial while Hubbard had a solid 9.055/72.32 on an 8.99. In the Jr. Dragster 2 final it was Tyler Powell picking up another win this time over Ryan Jackson. Powell was on his dial with a 7.939/81.28 on a 7.93 while Jackson broke out with an 8.039/76.86 on an 8.04 dial.ridgeway
