MIKE JONES BECOMES 11TH DIFFERENT WINNER IN TOP ELIMINATOR SUNDAY

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – The point series may have ended last week but racers were still looking for their first win of the season Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Mike Jones of Salisbury, Md. did just that in Top Eliminator becoming the 11th different winner in the class. John Parks of Denton, Md. picked up his first win of the year in Pro as did Marco Church of Pittsville, Md. in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Jacob Foy of Seaford, Del. in Street (first win); Ed Tull of Willards, Md. in Hot Rod; Reese Hales of Delmar in Jr. Dragster 1 (first win) and Alex Bradford of Newark, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.

Mike Jones in his Undercover dragster faced Frank Lecates in his Mullis dragster in the Top Eliminator final. Lecates had the better reaction but Jones was almost dead-on his dial-in taking the win with a 7.461/178.46 on a 7.46 dial. Lecates ran a 7.903/170.35 on a 7.89 dial. Semi-finalist was Ricky Payne who lost to Lecates while Jones had the bye run.

In the Pro final it was John Parks in his ’68 Camaro taking on Glen Isom in his Chevy Blazer. It was a close run but Isom negated his .004 reaction light when he broke out with a 9.958/133.21 on a 9.96 dial. Parks was on his dial running a 10.567/126.12 on a 10. 56 dial for the win. Semi-finalists were Glenn Groton who lost to Parks and Brent Cannon who lost to Isom.

Marco Church rode his Kawasaki into the Pro Bike final against Cardi Nock also on a Kawasaki. Church became the 12th different winner in the class running a 9.318/140.03 on a 9.28 dial. Nock had an 8..894/153.58 on an 8.84 dial. Semi-finalist was Brandon Clark who lost to Church while Nock had the bye.

Jacob Foy got his first win of the season defeating Michael Jefferson in the Street final. Foy in his ’65 Chevy II ran a 12.229/106.06 on a 12.19 while Jefferson broke out with a 12.939/100.68 on a 13.00 dial. In Hot Rod it was Ed Tull driving to his fourth win over Joe Serio. It was a double break-out final with Tull  running a 13.540/98.42 on a 13.56 dial while Serio was out by more with an 11.566/113.06 on an 11.68 dial.

The Jr. Dragster 1 final was a solo run with Reece Hales running a 12.213/50.48 on an 11.90 dial for his first win. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was back to back wins for Alex Bradford. Bradford faced Hope Clarke who left too early and fouled and Bradford drove a 7.989/81.17 on a 7.96 dial.

The event will host an all Nostalgia Eliminator, Car Show, Swap Meet, Burn Out and Wheelie Contest along with their bracket programs. Come meet some of the pioneers of racing like Bruce Larson and Dave Bishop, also cars from back in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s such as Larson’s USA Funny Car, the “Whooppee Car� and “38 Special� Wheel Standing Pickup.

Gates open 9 am time trial at 11am with Car Show, Specialty Awards, Burnout Contest & Wheelie Contest set to kick off around 1:30pm. Eliminations for the Bracket racing and Nostalgia class begin 2:30pm. Admission is only $15 and children 13 and under are admitted free with a paying adult. Car Show fee is only the admission fee and Swap Meet $40 (includes admission) for 10X10 spot and $10 for additional 10′ increments.
