U.S. 13 DRAGWAY CELEBRATES 2015 SEASON

By Charlie Brown, Dover, DE – It took a little bit of a wait but the U.S. 13 Dragway celebrated its 52nd racing season and its first under the IHRA banner Saturday night at the Dover Downs Hotel& Casino. The event was postponed two weeks due to the blizzard that hit on the original weekend. A crowd consisting of drivers, riders, family and friends were on hand to recognize the top competitors of 2015.The top qualifiers for the IHRA Summit E.T. Racing Series Bracket Finals received trophies and shared in the $14,425 point fund.

 

 

Ben Parks of Salisbury, Md. added to his list of championships by winning in Top. Parks, who finished fourth in last seasons standings, pulled away to a comfortable points lead in the middle part of the season and was strong throughout the year earning 749 points. David Lowe took the runnerup spot with 550 points and Steven Truitt had a great season finishing in third with 549. W.R. Ketterman got into the win column late in the season and finished fourth with 485 and Toya Peek had a consistent year rounding out the top five with 459.

 

Rounding out the top 15 were Vic Gordy sixth with 453 points, Chad Cathell in seventh with 447, Frank Lecates eight with 446, Phillip Truitt in ninth with 439 and tenth was Horace Willey with 421. Jamie Powell finished in the 11th spot with 386, Bobby Insley was 12th with 365, Sterling Clough 13th with 344, Tommy Ketterman in 14th with 343 and Doug Milner 15th with 333.  Trophies were presented by Pepsi Bottling Ventures.

 

Tim Foskey of Rhodesdale, Md. took top honors in the Pro division. Foskey took a commanding lead late in the season winning three final rounds along the way and amassing 809 points. Second through sixth place in point were very close. Daryl Beauchamp finished in second with 558 points holding off Ryan Groton by just ten points. Defending champion, Roger Ridgeway, Jr. finished a solid fourth with 542 and Crystal Hudson tied with Jim Williams for fifth with 535 points..

 

Finishing seventh through twelfth were: Ben Garnett with 448, Andy Davenport eighth with 430, Humphrey Maddox, Jr. in ninth with 408, John Henderson tenth with 364, Marcus Wongus 11th with 362 and Gary Owens 12th with 329.. Trophies were presented by the Cheswold Connection.

 

In Pro Bike the question remains “who can beat James Farmer?� Farmer rode his Hayabusa to his fourth consecutive championship and his ninth overall. Farmer posted a rather conservative four wins but was never very far from the final round. He earned 738 points. Brice Cornish tied for second with Marquise Blake with 503 points each. Trophies were presented by Insinger Performance, Inc.

Josh Davis of Seaford, Del. earned his first Street Eliminator championship driving his unique 1977 AMC Pacer. Davis grabbed six wins and earned 619 points. Second went to Sharon Landry with 549 and Ronn Carey came in third with 492. Rounding out the top five were last year’s champion, Gary Stickles with 456 and Hunter Milligan with 365. Trophies were presentd by Gordon Food Service.

 

Keith Riddle of Millsboro, Del. came out on top in Jr. Dragster 1. Riddle picked up eight wins and earned 648 points. Second through tenth were 2) Nyck Shirkey with 458; 3) Cody Drummond with 418; 4) Nicholas Bowie with 357; 5) Caitlyn Hooper with 340; 6) Zach Shirkey with 338; 7) Carter Foskey with 335; 8) Ethan Hubbard with 300; 9) Kayla Holden with 240 and Brett Holston with 203. Trophies were presented by Drummond Race Cars.

 

Jacob Bowie of Greensboro, Md. successfully defended his championship in Jr. Dragster II. Bowie won three out of the first five events and then spread five more wins through the season to earn 612 to win his second straight championship. Kody Mariner finished as the runner-up with 456 and Alexis Truitt ended a great season in third with 438. Rounding out the top five were Dacia Powell with 417 and Alex Bradford with 414. Sixth through tenth were Tyler Powell with 317, Brittany Hooper  with 298, Michael Ennis with 229, Hope Clarke with 197 and Ryan Jackson with 155. Trophies were presented by Drummond Race Cars.

 

For the first time the grudge racers of the 302 Nation were recognized. Finishing on the top of “The List� was Steve Drummond of Laure, Del. Runner-up was Danny Clark with Lewis Jones third. Fourth went to Antoine Jones and Takii Smith rounded out the top five. Sixth was Craig Walls with the team of Donald & Tim Ballard seventh. Eighth went to Barney Bowen with Tom Lynch ninth and Justin Abbott tenth. Trophies were presented by Campbell’s Collision.
