FRANK LECATES TAKES TOP HONORS SUNDAY AT U.S.13
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – A pair of veterans from Salisbury, Md. met in the Top Eliminator final Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Coming out on top was Frank Lecates over Mike Jones. Defending Mod Eliminator champion, Tim Foskey, Jr. of Rhodesdale, Md. took the win in Mod and Harvey Powell of Felton, Del. rode to the win in Outten Bros. Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Michael Jefferson of Parsonsburg, Md. in Street; Tony Rich of Greensboro, Md. in Hot Rod; Ethan Hubbard of Princess Anne, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and the Jr. Shootout and James Paylor of Northeast, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.
It was a pair of rear engine dragsters with Lecates facing Jones. Jones had the better reaction but Lecates had the better run holding on at the finish line for the win. Lecates ran a 7.876/167.03 on 7.85 dial while Jones had a 7.491/180.39 on a 7.42 dial. Semi-finalist was Doug Doll, Jr. who lost to Jones while Lecates had the bye after a .005 light in the quarter-finals.
The Mod final paired Tim Foskey, Jr. in his Mustang against the Camaro of Ernie Fisher. Foskey took the double breakout win with a 9.385/139.66 on a 9.40 dial. Fisher was out by more running a 9.939/118.93 on a 10.03 dial. Semi-finalist was Roger Ridgeway, Jr. who lost to Foskey while Fisher had the bye.
Harvey Powell on his ’84 Suzuki rode up against Thomas Graves on an ’01 Suzuki in the Outten Bros. Pro Bike final. Graves red lighted and Powell rode to the win with an 8.946/142.04 on an 8.96 dial. Semi-finalist were Marquise Blake who lost to Graves and Peter Mahoney who lost to Powell
Michael Jefferson in a Nova ran a 12.810/96.82 on a 12.75 dial-in to win in Street over Mike Adkins in his Mercedes who ran a 15.123/90.12 on a 15.04 dial. In Hot Rod Tony Rich had the better reaction and ran a 10.928/120.06 on a 10.91 for the win over Chuck Riley who broke out with an 11.622/119.44 on an 11.68 dial.
The Jr. Dragster 1 final matched Ethan Hubbard against Nicholas Bowie in the final. Hubbard took the double breakout win with a 7.914/81.10 on a 7.92 dial. Bowie was out by more running an 8.894/73.70 on an 8.95. In the Jr. 2 final it was James Paylor taking on Alexis Truitt. Paylor had the better reaction and took the win with a 9.058/70.77 on a 9.00 while Truitt had a 7.994/81.22 on a 7.91 dial. In the Shootout between the Jr. winners Hubbard took the win over Paylor with a 7.956/80.47 on a 7.91 dial while Paylor had a 9.094/71.11 on a 9.00 dial.
This Sunday will be another exciting IHRA Summit ET Series race plus “The List 2016 Shakedown and Run for the List.� Gates open at 10 a.m. with time runs at 11 a.m. and eliminations at approximately 2 p.m.
