BILL GROTON AVENGES LAST WEEK’S LOSS WITH TOP ELIMINATOR WIN SUNDAY AT U.S. 13
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Bill Groton of Seaford, Del. lost in the Top Eliminator final round a week ago but on Sunday he came home on the winning side in a rare all-Pontiac final. The same scenario was true for Tim Foskey, Jr. of Rhodesdale, Md. who also was runner-up last week in Mod and posted the win on Sunday. In the Top vs. Mod Run Off, Foskey, Jr. got the bragging rights. Harvey Powell of Felton, Del. rode to his second win in Pro Bike and Michael Jefferson of Parsonsburg, Md. won in Street.  Angelina Battaglia of Elkton, Md. took Jr. Street and Jacob Foy of Mardela Springs, Md. won Hot Rod. In Jr. Dragster it was Cody Drummond of Laurel, Del. in Jr. 1 and Hope Clarke of Parsonsburg in Jr. 2. Topping “The List� was Jamar Hollingsworth of Harrington, Del. Sunday was the first Cash Day event of the season and was sponsored by Hurlock Auto & Speed.
The Top final matched Bill Groton in his ’66 GTO against the ’01 Pontiac of David Lowe. Groton had the better reaction and held on for the win with a 10.180/129.98 on a 10.16 dial. Lowe ran an 8.832/149.55 on an 8.80 dial. Semi-finalist was Jamie Sullivan who lost to Groton while Lowe had the bye.
Tim Foskey, Jr. faced Mark Benston, Jr. in the Mod final. Foskey had the better reaction and won with a 9.414/130.47 on a 9.39 dial while Benston went a 10.783/123.88 on a 10.76 dial. Semi-finalists were Ernie Fisher who lost to Foskey, Jr. and Daryl Beauchamp who lost to Benston, Jr.
In the Top vs. Mod Run Off, Foskey, Jr. had the better reaction time over Groton and took the win with a 9.426/139.47 on a 9.38 dial. Groton broke out with a 10.126/130.34 on a 10.17 dial.
Jamar Hollingsworth walked away with $1500 taking the final in “The List� over Mark Cathell. Cathell got out of shape and had to back off and Hollingsworth powered his Camaro to the win. Semi-finalist was Tim Ballard in his ’72 Nova losing to Cathell and Adam Adams in his ’76 Datsun lost to Hollingsworth in the Quarter-finals.
In the Pro Bike final Harvey Powell on a Suzuki rode up against the Honda of Peter Mahoney. Powell had a .003 reaction light and caught Mahoney early for the win. Powell ran a 9.258/110.68 on an 8.94 dial while Mahoney had a 12.251/108.08 on an 11.85 dial. Semi-finalist was Drew Birch who lost to Powell while Mahoney had the bye.
Michael Jefferson won Street over Ronn Carey. Jefferson took the double break-out win with an 11.994/108.23 on a 12.00 dial. Carey had an 11.973/113.62 in the heads up run. In Hot Rod it was Jacob Foy over David Logan. Logan had a red light foul and Foy ran an 11.848/109.13 on an 11.87 dial for the win. Angelia Battagla drove her ’13 Hyundia to the Jr. Street win.
The Jr. Dragster 1 final was a good one between Cody Drummond and Caitlyn Hooper. Drummond scored the win with an 8.930/71.16 on an 8.92 dial while Hooper ran an 8.914/72.20 on an 8.90 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Hope Clarke over Alexis Truitt. Clarke was on her dial running an 8.632/74.72 on an 8.63. Truitt had a solid 7.975/82.94 on a 7.93 dial.
This Sunday will be another IHRA Summit ET Series points event along with the Bad 8 Spring Nationals and Run for the List. Gates open at 10 a.m. with Time Trials at 11 a.m. and eliminations at approximately 2 p.m.
