302NATION & THE LIST RETURNS FOR 2016 1st CASH DAY TO HOLLINGSWORTH
By Mark Cathell - The 302NATION and List family hosted their first Cash Day of 2016! Hurlock Speed & Auto Supply was on site, as they were the first Cash Day Sponsor for 2016. The staff of the U.S. 13 Dragway would like to thank all the Staff and Owner Shawn Ward for their support of the LIST program for 2016.
With the season still young, 5 teams made their way out for the $1500 CASH DAY POT up for grabs! No test hits, off the trailer and draw your opponent has made this race a fan favorite. Sunday, placed three of last years competitors returning, The Hulk, No Piggy & Blue Ice and two of this years new comers, The Beast and Silver Bullet participating.
Chad Cathell met with all the drivers for the drawing of the cards to see who would race who, for the first round parings. The Beast & Mark Cathell drew the Ace giving his team the 1st round bye. Next to draw would be, The Hulk & Tim Ballard and No Piggy & Lance White drew the next paring with White getting lane choice. This left The Blue Ice and Jamar Hollingsworth vs the Silver Bullet and Adam Adams.
As they rolled out of the lanes, the first pair up, No Piggy vs The Hulk. After the burnout, No Piggy showed to have mechanical troubles and he team elected to back White off. This gave the Ballard Boyz Racing and The Hulk a free test hit and first round win. Tim Ballard had to do some pedaling as The Hulk tried to over power the track.
Next up, the Blue Ice and Sliver Bullet rolled to the water-box. The Blue Ice stole the starting line advantage, at the 330' the Silver Bullet turbo started to make up that difference. At the stripe it was the Blue Ice by only a fender to grab the win light. The Beast followed this paring making his attempt down the track. At about 100' out the Beast blew the tires off making Cathell lift and go back to the pits to get ready for round two.
So then we were down to three! The ladder paired The Hulk & Ballard Boyz Racing vs The Beast and Dubble Wyde Boyz Racing. As both purged the nitrous, fans flocked to the fence to witness this match up. Off the hit, The Beast jumped out in front and The Hulk started his pursuit to haul down the Beast. At the 330' mark The Beast had a car length lead and never looked back. At the stripe, The Beast grabbed the win light to move to the finals against Blue Ice and Hollingsworth. On the bye, Hollingsworth and the Blue Ice laid down a good blast down the 1/8 mile, setting up what should be, a great final match.
In the finals, the drivers flipped for lane choice and the Beast won the toss, choosing the right lane. Both cars heated the tries up and made they way to the starting line. The crowd was split on who they wanted to see win. As both staged, the tree drooped and again the Beast grabbed the advantage. As both cars passed the 60' mark, only a half car length separated the two with the advantage to the Beast. At about 125' out, the Beast made a move to the center and it was evident Cathell had to make the decision to lift to save the car and not cross over into Hollingsworths path. This was all it took, as The Blue Ice and Hollingsworth drove past Cathell to pick up the win and $1500 in prize money!
This definitely gave fans a small taste of whats to come in 2016. This Sunday, we will be holding another "Run For The List" race. This will be to fill the remaining three spots - 8,9 &10th.
Again, we can't thank all of the fans and teams who continue to support our LIST program.
Have a good week and we will see you at the track!
