US 13 Dragway
MAHONEY, BUCKSON AND BLAKE SCORE WINS IN 2ND ANNUAL BIKE BRAWL
DELMAR, DE – The U.S. 13 Dragway finally got a break in the weather in time for Sunday’s 2nd Annual Bike Brawl sponsored by Outten Bros. of Salisbury, Md. Taking wins in the motorcycle divisions were: Peter Mahoney of Parsonsburg, Md. in Pro Bike; Anthony Buckson of Dover, Del. in Bad 8 Bike and Marquise Blake of Frankford, Del. in Crazy 8 Eliminator. Scoring wins in the weekly bracket divisions were: W.R. Ketterman of Salisbury, Md. in Top ET; Jim Williams of Seaford, Del. in Mod ET; Josh Davis of Seaford in Street; Charles Appler of Millsboro, Del. in Hot Rod; Keith Riddle of Millsboro in Jr. Dragster 1 and Jacob Bowie of Greensboro, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.
Peter Mahoney on a Honda faced Joseph Lopez on his Kawasaki in the Pro Bike final. Mahoney was late at the start but Lopez broke out running a 9.137/151.20 on a 9.20 dial giving Mahoney the win with an 11.936/109.09 on an 11.88 dial-in. The Bad 8 final matched Anthony Buckson on his ’80 Kawasaki against the ’06 Kawasaki of Turon Davis. Davis left early and fouled and Buckson made a full pass at 8.609/148.85 on an 8.67 for the victory. In the Crazy 8 Eliminator where all bikes run on an 8.88 index Marquise Blake on a GSXR took on Robert Brummell on his ’07 Suzuki. Brummell tried to make up for his late start and broke out with an 8.845/147.27. Blake stayed above the index taking the win with an 8.995/134.44.
Crosswind conditions kept both the Top ET cars and the Mod ET cars restricted to the eighth-mile. It was a pair of dragsters in the final with W.R. Ketterman facing Sterling Clough. Ketterman was dead-on his dial to take the win with a 4.590/147.95 on a 4.59 dial. Clough broke out with a 5.509/125.13 on a 5.51 dial. Semi-finalists were Trip Clough who lost to Ketterman and Horace Willey who lost to Sterling Clough.
The Mod final was an all-Chevy matchup between Jim Williams in his ’69 Camaro and Brian Riebert in his ’86 Chevy S-10. Williams took the double breakout run with a 5.961/118.14 on a 5.97 dial. Riebert was under by more running a 6.622/101.10 on a 6.68 dial after having a .006 reaction light. Semi-finalists were Matt Purfield who lost to Williams and Matthew Hurd who lost to Riebert.
It was an unusual combination in the Street final between current division champion Josh Davis in his ’77 AMC Pacer and former division champion Gary Stickles in his ’78 Ford Fairmont. Stickles left too early and fouled and Davis drove to the win with a 12.006/109.60 on a 12.04 dial. In Hot Rod it was Charles Appler taking the win over Sara Davis. The pair were even at the start but Davis broke out with an 11.709/111.30 on an 11.72 dial. Appler ran a solid 11.270/117.95 on an 11.20 for the win.
In the Jr. Dragster 1 final defending champion, Keith Riddle was paired against Nyck Shirkey. Riddle had the better reaction and was on his dial running a 7.932/80.42 on a 7.93 dial. Shirkey had an 8.925/72.88 on an 8.91 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was two time defending champion Jacob Bowie over Brittany Hooper. Hooper left too early and fouled and Bowie ran a 7.971/82.38 on a 7.95 dial.
This weekend it will be Mopar Muscle Sunday plus the Diesel Pickup Shootout along with the IHRA Summit Point Series. Gates open at 10 a.m. with time runs at 11 a.m. and eliminations at 2 p.m. For more information log on to www.delawareracing.com.
