1ST STATE TRUE STREET CHALLENGE INVADES DELMAR
1ST STATE TRUE STREET CHALLENGE
We started the day off with our first "True Street Challenge" race with only seven drivers entered to take the challenge. Billy Brown, Mark Jones, Bill Taylor, Sal Patel, Chuck Riley, Craig Walls, Aaron Tingle. All seven drivers took to the highway as they were paraded around the Town of Delmar for a 12 mile drive.
Once returning to the track, they went directly back to the staging lanes. They were then allowed to refuel and add any power adders needed. All drivers were called to the head of lane 4 to draw for their pairings. Chuck Riley drew the lucky BYE card placing him on to second round. The rest of the pairings were as follows: Sal Patel vs Aaron Tingle, Billy Brown vs Craig Walls and Billy Taylor vs Mark Jones. At the end of round won, Riley, Patel, Taylor and Brown were victorious.
Round two parings saw Riley to take on Patel and Taylor would match up against Brown to see who would make it to the finals. Patel handled Riley easily and Taylor wasted no time place Brown on the trailer. So the finals were set, Sal Patel in his AWD twin turbo Nissan GTR, lined up beside the Big Block powered GTO of Billy Taylor. At the hit, it looked as if Taylor had the advantage, by the 1/8 mile mark they were dead even but at the 1,000 mark the GTR put about a half of a car length on Taylor to reach the 1/4 mile stripe first for the win! In the finals Patel & Taylor agreed to split the $850 cash prize for their efforts.
We would like to Thank our Sponsor L & D Performance of Berlin MD for sponsoring the True Street starting pot! Please be sure to thank them for supporting this race!
After the race, our winner Sal Patel posted this message on another page. We would like to thank him for his generosity and look forward to our next event on Saturday August 13th.
Sal Patel: Good morning 302. I myself enjoyed the True Street challenge yesterday. It was something different for our area and I am hoping Charles Cathell and DeniseandMark Cathell plan to continue this series.
For those of you that were there hopefully will now understand the GTR doesn't wear a cape. The track levels the playing field hence the reason I only won by 1/2 car on the last race against The Judge.
To further support and promote this type of racing, I will contribute my $425 winnings to the next True Street Challenge pot. I took home $425 because Bill Taylor and I agreed to split the pot prior to the race.
Happy Memorial Day everyone.
We will be reviewing the rules and other items for the next Saturday event. These changes will be posted here on the List page as well as our website. Thanks to everyone who came out in support!
