BILL GROTON GETS SECOND WIN IN TOP ET AT U.S. 13 DRAGWAY

DELMAR, DE – While everyone was trying to figure out how to beat the heat a pair of veteran racers were trying to figure out how to beat each other Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Bill Groton of Seaford, Del. in his ‘66 Pontiac GTO faced former champ, Frank Lecates of Salisbury, Md. in his dragster in the Top ET final. At the finish line it would be Groton taking his second win of the season. Daryl Beauchamp of Princess Anne, Md. posted his second consecutive win in Mod ET while Dale Hamilton of Mount Airy, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Michael Jefferson of Parsonsburg, Md. in Street; Joe Serro of Millsboro, Del. in Hot Rod; Keith Riddle of Millsboro in Jr. Dragster 1 and Brett Holston of Felton, Del. in Jr. Dragster 2.

Bill Groton and Frank Lecates have faced each other dozens of times over the years and once again they found themselves side by side in the Top ET final. The pair didn’t disappoint as Groton’s four one-thousandths of a second advantage at the start was enough to get him to the finish line a bumper ahead of Lecates for the win. Groton had a .017 reaction time and ran a 10.327/130.28 on a 10.32 dial while Lecates had a .021 reaction and ran an 8.193/158.22 on an 8.19 dial. Semi-finalists were Harvey Powell who lost to Davis and James Farmer who lost to Hamilton.

Michael Jefferson piloted his ‘74 Nova to the win in Street over defending champion, Josh Davis in his ‘77 AMC Pacer. Davis left early and fouled and Jefferson had a 12.390/105.88 for the win. In Hot Rod it was Joe Serro in his Chevy S-10 over Sara Davis. Davis broke out with a 12.232/109.89 on a 12.24 dial and Serro had a 10.513/111.85 on a 10.50 dial for the win.
