BEN GARNETT SWEEPS IN FOOT BRAKE QUICK 8 & MOD ET SUNDAY
DELMAR, DE – Sunday turned out to be a perfect day not only weather wise but for Ben Garnett of Smyrna, Del. who drove his ‘71 Ford Maverick to the win in both the Footbrake Quick 8 Challenge and the Mod ET final. Robert Messick of Pittsville, Md. scored the victory in Top ET while Jason Taylor of Salisbury, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Michael Jefferson of Parsonsburg, Md. in Street; Sara Davis of Laurel, Del. in Hot Rod; Ethan Hubbard of Princess Anne, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Hope Clarke of Parsonsburg in Jr. Dragster II.
The Footbrake Quick 8 final was a match up of two 140 plus miles per hour Fords when Ben Garnett in his ‘71 Maverick met Roger Ridgeway, Jr. in his ‘78 Mustang. Garnett had the better reaction and raced to the win with a 9.327/142.15 on a 9.31 dial-in. Ridgeway was took quick and broke out running a 9.053/143.60 on a 9.06 dial.
Garnett advanced through the Mod ET eliminations to face Ryan Groton in his ‘78 Camaro. Garnett ended a perfect day with a .002 reaction and a run of 9.299/136.01 on a 9.28 dial for the win. Groton had an 11.734/113.93 on an 11.73 dial. Semi-finalist was Robin Lewers who lost to Garnett while Groton had the bye.
In Top ET it was Robert Messick facing Frank Lecates. Lecates had a -.008 reaction light and fouled and Messick drove his Chevy S-10 to the win with an off the throttle 13.995/64.67 on an 11.74. Semi-finalist was Bobby Insley who broke before the run.
Jason Taylor rode his Kawasaki up against Turon Davis on his Kawasaki in the Pro Bike final. Taylor had the better reaction and rode to the win with a 9.606/140.05 on a 9.59 dial. Davis ran a 9.027/150.35 on an 8.98 dial. Semi-finalist was Roland Byrd who lost to Taylor while Davis had the bye.
Michael Jefferson took the Street final over defending champion Josh Davis. It was a double breakout run with Davis running a 12.169/105.72 on a 12.18 dial with Jefferson out by less with a 12.198/107.25 on a 12.20 dial.
Sara Davis once again came out on top in Hot Rod. Davis was paired against Brenda Layton in the final and ran a 12.082/110.07 on a 12.05 dial. Layton broke out with an 11.097/121.73 on an 11.10 dial.
In Jr. Dragster 1, Ethan Hubbard was across from Cole Foskey. The pair were almost even at the start but Hubbard had the better run to take the win with a 7.999/79.38 on a 7.93 dial. Foskey ran a 12.351/51.73 on a 12.24 dial. In Jr. Dragster II it was Hope Clarke over Vance Usilton. Clarke ran an 8.737/72.73 on an 8.73 dial. Usilton ran an 8.614/75.53 on an 8.54 dial.
This Sunday will be the First State Hot Rod Reunion Nostalgia Show & Drags. There will be a show & shine coral, a swapmeet area, wheelie contest, burn out contest plus Nostalgia Eliminator, Footbrake and Electronics eliminators. Gates open at 10 am with time runs at 11 am.
