“SLICK� VIC GORDY CAPTURES 54TH ANNIVERSARY WIN SUNDAY IN TOP ET
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Beautiful fall like temperatures provided perfect weather for the hundreds or racers and show cars and the hundreds more spectators that attended Sundays William J. & Juanita Cathell 54th Anniversary Chevy Show, Shine and Drags Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway.
Scoring his first win of the season in Top ET was “Slick� Vic Gordy of Harbeson, Del. over Daryl Beauchamp. Roger Ridgeway, Jr. took the Mod ET win while Ricky Demby of Ingleside, Md got his first win in the Outten Bros. Furniture of Salisbury, Md. Pro Bikes. Other division winners included: Ronn Carey of Dagsboro, Del. in Street; Urias Shockley of Dover, Del. in Hot Rod; Michael Chapman of Pocomoke, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Nicholas Bowie of Greensboro, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.
Second generation driver, Vic Gordy in his beautiful ‘87 Cavalier faced Daryl Beauchamp in his ‘78 Camaro in the Top ET final. Both drivers were on their dial-ins but Gordy had the better start and drove to the $2000 win running an 8.762/153.74 on an 8.75 dial. Beauchamp had a 9.665/136.28 on a 9.67 dial. Semi-finalists were Jerry Russell who lost to Gordy and Alex Bradford who lost to Beauchamp.
Roger Ridgeway, Jr. driving his ‘78 Mustang was paired with John Henderson in his ‘69 Camaro in the Mod ET final. Henderson left early and fouled and Ridgeway made a full pass of 9.010/147.08 on a 9.00 dial-in for the $1200 victory. Semi-finalist was Ryan Groton who lost to Henderson while Ridgeway had the bye.
Ricky Demby on his ‘09 Kawasaki rode up against defending champion Harvey Powell of Felton, Del. in the Outten Bros. Furniture Pro Bike final. Demby took the hole shot win with a .010 reaction light and a run of 9.717/113.69 on a 9.70 dial. Powell on his Suzuki had a .080 reaction time and ran an 8.878/144.71 on an 8.87 dial. Semi-finalist was Travis Irvin who lost to Demby while Powell had the bye.
Ronn Carey had the better reaction and drove to the all-Chevy S-10 Street final win over Buddy Layfield. Carey ran a 12.379/104.23 on a 12.33 dial while Layfield broke out with a 13.831/95.25 on a 13.85 dial. It was a solo run for Urias Shockley in his ‘10 Dodge to win Hot Rod with a 15.739/89.82 on a 15.82 dial.
In Jr. Dragster 1 Michael Chapman was matched with Danielle Donze. Donze left a little too early and fouled and Chapman drove to the win with an 11.775/55.64 on an 11.90 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 Nicholas Bowie took on Cody Drummond in the final. Bowie took the hole shot win with a .041 reaction and a run of 8.061/79.47 on an 8.03 dial. Drummond had a .085 reaction time but was on his dial with a 7.952/82.36 on a 7.95 dial.
Once again the Mason/Dixon Chevy Club hosted the Chevy Show. Over 160 entries took part with Ross Button of Camden, Del. in his 1969 Camaro receiving Best of Show. U.S. 13 Dragway’s top pick was the 1966 C-10 Pickup of Todd Davis from Milford, Del. and the Mason/Dixon Chevy Club’s top pick was the 1955 Chevy Belair owned by Ed Allison of Dover.
