BEN GARENTT WINS JERRY KETTERMAN’S MOD ET BAD 8 SUNDAY

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Jerry Ketterman gave the Mod ET division its turn to time and run their own Bad 8 on Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Coming out on top was 2017 Mod ET champion, Ben Garnett of Smyrna, Del. driving his beautiful ‘71 Ford Maverick. Former champion, Frank Lecates of Salisbury, Md. took top honor in Top ET while Chad Thurman of Seaford, Del. drove to the win in the regular Mod ET eliminations. Other winners on the day included: Marquise Blake of Frankford, Del. in Pro Bike; Byrone Lake of Frankford in Street; Urias Shockley of Dover, Del. in Hot Rod; Danielle Donze of Felton, Del. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Morgan Larkin of Salisbury in Jr. Dragster 2.

All qualifying and eliminations in Top ET and Mod ET was in the eighth-mile. Ben Garnett faced John Binkle of Willowstreet, Pa. in his dragster in the Mod ET Bad 8 final. Garnett had a .016 reaction light to Binkle’s .050 and drove to the win. Garnett ran a 5.846/112.59 on a 5.82 dial. Binkle had a 5.564/122.83 on a 5.54. Low E.T. in qualifying was set by Bernie Pyles of Millersville, Md. in his ‘64 Chevy II with a 5.516 and Top Speed went to Keith Mayers of Middletown, Del. in his ‘67 Dodge Coronet at 126.67 mph.

Chad Thurman was paired against Tim Foskey, Jr. in the finals of the regular Mod ET. Foskey, Jr. had a -.007 red light foul and Thurman got the win with a 5.986/114.49. Semi-finalists were David Keyton who lost to Foskey, Jr. and Vincent Wade who lost to Thurman.

The Top ET final was a good matchup between Frank Lecates in his dragster going up againt the ‘78 Monza of Ricky Payne. Lecates took the win with a 5.373/116.88 on a 5.31 dial. Payne’s demise was his reaction time as he was dead on his dial with a 6.690/121.78 on a 5.69 to finish as the runner-up. Semi-finalist was Horace Willey who lost to Payne while Lecates had the bye.

Marquise Blake on his GSXR 1000 rode up against Kaitlyn Kissinger on her ‘16 Suzuki in the Pro Bike final. Kissinger left early and fouled and Blake scored the win with a 9.466/150.77 on a 9.40 dial. Semi-finalist was Brice Cornish, Jr. who lost to Blake while Kissinger had the bye.

The Street final was a match up between Byrone Lake in his ‘76 Camaro and former champion, Josh Davis in his ‘77 AMC Pacer. Lake took the double breakout win with an 11.347/117.86 on an 11.42 dial while Davis was out by more running a 12.208/109.48 on a 12.32 dial.

Urias Shockley defeated Benda Layton in the Hot Rod final. Shockley took the double breakout win with a 15.805/88.88 on a 15.82 dial while Layton ran a 14.714/87.89 on a 14.78 dial.

In the Jr. Dragster 1 final it was Danielle Donze over Chase Huber. Donze ran a 9.018/70.37 on an 8.96 dial while Huber broke out with an 11.951/56.70 on an 11.98 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Morgan Larkin over Brett Holston. Holston had the better reaction but Lakin was able to drive by to take the win with a 7.942/82.35. Holston had a 7.991/82.36 on the 10.90 heads-up dial.
