FOOTBRAKE NATIONALS FINAL ATTEMPT FALLS SHORT AGAIN DUE TO WEATHER
Delmar, DE – The old adage goes, “If at first you don’t succeed, try try again. For the fourth time on Sunday the U.S. 13 Dragway attempted to get the Footbrake Nationals in the 2017 record books but it was not to be.
Drying efforts due to early morning showers pushed eliminations late into the afternoon. As soon as the sun went down, what had been seasonably mild temperatures fell like a rock taking all of the traction out of the track and forcing the cancellation of the remainder of the event.
Jr. Dragster 2 was the only division to complete eliminations while Footbrake, Combo, Street and Pro Bike winners up to that point split the remaining purse for their divisions.
In the Jr. Dragster final Cody Drummond of Laurel, Del. faced Autumn Huber of Queen Anne, Md. Huber would leave first but left too early and fouled. Drummond ended his runner-up streak with a solid .055 reaction light and a run of 8.020/81.33 mph on a 7.98 dial-in to become the final winner of the 2017 season.
In the Footbrake eliminations 13 drivers went three rounds before the track went away. The group split the remaining purse. Combo eliminations were stopped after just one round with 14 cars splitting their purse, In Pro Bike 14 riders remained after the first round and split the money and Street Eliminator was halted after a single round.
The U.S. 13 Dragway would like to thanks all of the racers, fans, sponsors and employees for a safe and successful 2017 season and wish them a very happy holiday.
