US 13 Dragway
Mother Nature Tried but Couldn't Stop US 13 Dragway
Delmar, DE-
Mother Nature gave it her best shot to cancel our Bracket Program for the weekend of 5/17-5/19. However, through perseverance and hard work, the staff at US 13 Dragway gave the drivers a Friday night Test and Tune, as well as a car and bike shootout. Sunday, the sun shined bright, and temperatures were perfect! The day started out with a time run session and eliminations began after lunch.
Eddie McBride, Kevin Mendenhall, Rob Weltner Jr made it to the semifinal round in Noland Services Top ET with Weltner running under his 6.15 dial to take the loss with a 6.138. Mendenhall and McBride made the final round with Mendenhall turning on a -.003 red bulb giving the win light to McBride.
Millsboro, DE's Crystal Hudson took the Beach Custom Services Mod ET win for the women Sunday! She landed in the final round against Boyertown, PA's Joe Dedrick. Hudson's .019 reaction gave her the advantage over Dedrick's .030 to allow her to seal the deal with a 5.946 on a 5.94 dial. Salisbury, MD's Mike Jefferson was eliminated in the semifinal round.
OBHF Pro Bike ET winner Sunday, Montrell Johnson slipped past Sam Sanders in the finals with an early leave from the line for Sanders. He put on the red light with a -.031 reaction giving Johnson the win. These two were thrilled to make it to the finals against each other and visit the payout window.
Tire King Sportsman ET winner Gary Stickles is not new to the winner's circle. He defeated Jon Henry of Bridgeville, DE with Stickles' .039 reaction which gave him the advantage and then the win. Henry was finally back out with his 72 Nova and happy to be back on the track. He is usually behind the line watching son, Jonathan who graduated up from Junior Dragsters this year.
Braxton Hazzard sealed the deal on another win over Manheim, PA's Jackson Greiner in the Carquest Hazzard Auto Parts Junior Dragster division. Hazzard's advantage off the starting line and 7.972 ET on 7.97 dial placed him in the winner's circle again in 2024.
Salisbury, MD's Savannah Baker took her Chevy S-10 to the winner's circle in the Prestige Plumbing Teen Challenge class over Frankford, DE's Landon Miller. These two are tough competitors in this class offered by the WDRA sanctioning body for drag racing. This class allows teens to drive their parents' daily drivers along with a parent or adult to enjoy the sport of drag racing. We look forward to this growing sport.
